UFC legend reshares theory about Conor McGregor’s failed 2024 UFC comeback that angered the Irishman

Chael Sonnen continues to call for doubt about the explanation for the canceled UFC decent from Conor McGregor in June 2024.

McGregor has not participated in the Octagon since his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier on UFC 264 in July 2021. After breaking his leg at the end of the first round, resulting in a second right for 'The Diamond', the former second-division champion was set aside while healing.

But four years, a successful recovery and a failed matchup have passed and 'the notorious' has still not brought back to action.

McGregor was booked to return against Michael Chandler last year after their Stint Coaching opposite each other on the ultimate hunter, but the Main Event of UFC 303 collapsed on late notification. The reason for the withdrawal of McGregor was a broken toe, of which he was released online.

However, that was not enough to display a UFC legend to pursue a different theory.

Chael Sonen still does not believe that Conor McGregor was really injured in 2024

Sonnen has a different conviction about McGregor's failed UFC co -come in 2024. Although he had no evidence, it stopped that 'De Beeks' did not often share his claim on public platforms.

More than a year after that discussion, Sonen is otherwise not convinced.

The return from McGregor to the UFC pool for testing drugs has led a new comeback talk this year, and while he responded during his good Guy/Bad Guy show with Daniel Cormier, Sonen raised his theory about the previous failed return of the Irish.

“When he went to Dublin (for the UFC 303 press conference), there were a number of rumors about why he withdrew,” Sonen said.

“The leading I believe is that he had received rehabilitation. If you don't believe that, you believe that the press release they turn off, that he has taken off for a discolored little finger toe that can or may not be broken.

“For a man who was so tough that he has a broken leg in two and he calls Joe Rogan (for an interview at UFC 264) … I find it difficult to imagine that he would miss a press conference for a discolored little finger,” Sonnen added.

Conor McGregor hit back on the claim of Chael Sonnen

McGregor does not yet have to comment on Sonnen who submits the claim again, but both he and his publicist close it firmly when the former UFC star shared it for the first time in 2024.

After his team had released a formal denial, McGregor went to social media to repeat that fans are used to seeing online from the Irishman.

“Chael, closes your cake hole, H-,” wrote McGregor to X. “You tap off the ground and pound.”

The consequences of the failed Chandler match have left a lot skeptical about McGregor's claim to still have comeback, which most recently appeared again in the midst of a UFC event at the White House on July 4, 2026.
