Bruno Fernandes was critical of the “Lazy” screen of Man Utd in their 2-2 Premier League Summer Series Draw with Everton before he called for further reinforcements in the transfer window.
Fernandes' first half of penalty, after a mistake by James Tarkowski on Amad Diallo, was canceled by Iliman Ndiaye, who emphatically ended from the cross of Idrissa Gueye after Vitalii Mykolenko had robbed Manuel Ugarte.
Replacement Mason Mount put Manchester United in front again when he turned around and an excellent finish curled past Jordan Pickford of Fernandes' Pass, but Everton came again when Amad's attempted Klaring Ayden Heaven and went into the net.
The Freakish own goal, which took place when Fernandes kicked out at Ndiaye, who responded by pushing him while both players were booked, Manchester United denied a third consecutive victory in the Premier League Summer Series, but they still ended up as winners, a point for the four-Team group.
When asked about the success of the tour from Man Utd to America and the display to Everton, Fernandes said: “It was positive. It was positive to be together to create a bond between the players.
“It has been important to develop how we want to play and involve the new players.
“We didn't want to end this way,” added the United Skipper. “Our achievements were not the best and we were a bit lazy today.
“We want to avoid that because you can pay with laziness at any time.”
'Hopefully we can add one or two players'
The positives for United Against Everton were a first performance for Bryan Mbeumo, their signing of £ 71 million from Brentford.
He combined smartly with Fernandes and colleague new signing Matheus Cunha at a number of times during the first half, with the advantage of new additions to the team.
The United Skipper, however, called for more reinforcements when he was asked if the club was where he should go to the new season.
“It improves,” he said. “But it's not the place where it should be.
“I don't want to dig up with anyone, but the club does the best they can do in terms of the financial situation they are talking about.
“But it was crystal clear that we needed more competition for the players who were here, more quality to get everyone a little more to come to the XI, and I think that's what the club is trying to do.
“Hopefully we can get one or two players more to help with that.”
'We have to win back mentality'
After a difficult 15th placed finish in the Premier League last season and defeat in the final of the Europa League to Tottenham, Fernandes also called on United to show another winning mentality, and he challenged the players to show it on the field.
He said: “Every little thing matters. In this football club you can't do anything wrong on or outside the field because it is too big worldwide and you are punished.
“You get the attention of the media, the attention of the fans and you have to be aware of that.
“The culture of this club was winning. We have to reduce that.
“It is not only the winning mentality we need, but it is also other things that the club tries to improve such as the facilities, the team, the staff and many other things.
“Many people have been bothered by this and now it's time for our players to show it on the field.”
