Captain Bruno Fernandes and Everton of Manchester United were forcing Iliman Ndiaye involved in a fiery confrontation during the 2-2 draw on their side in Atlanta.
The flash point took place just before Everton's second equalizer. Fernandes slid from behind on Ndiaye near the half line, which caused an angry reaction from the Everton man, who believed that the challenge was reckless.
The couple fourth in a heated exchange as the game remained, and a little later United gave a bizarre own goal, with Amad Diallo the ball in his own net.
Despite the drama, United was crowned champion of the Premier League Summer Series thanks to their earlier victories over West Ham and Bournemouth.
Fernandes had put United in the 19th minute and converted a penalty after James Tarkowski Diallo had brought down in the box.
Everton responded five minutes before the break. Idrissa Gueye Koos Ndiaye with a PinPoint Cross to the back post, and the Senegal International made no mistake with a composed finish.
United was in charge in the 69th minute through Mason Mount, who cleverly turned in the area before he drilled a shot past Jordan Pickford.
But the management didn't last long. After the argument between Fernandes and Ndiaye, Everton again reached through Diallo's own goal, so that a scrappy but intense meeting was closed – one that gave Ruben Amorim's team a real test prior to the new Premier League season.
Manchester United returns to action on Saturday when they organize Side A Side Fiorentina in Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim's side will then start their Premier League campaign against Arsenal the following Sunday.
