Georges St-Pierre played key role in Thad Jean’s gameplan for $500k PFL World Tournament win

UFC Hall of Famer Georges St-Pierre's ability to adapt to different styles was an important focus of the PFL title-winning plan by Thad Jean.

The PFL has a new superstar in Welterweight Thad Jean, after Jean Logan Storley defeated a unanimous decision to win the Welterweight Tournament of 2025 PFL. Jean used a varied game plan to frustrate Storley in five rounds, making Storley almost early in round 2 with his striking.

Jean is one of the many rising stars in the Welterweight Division over MMA. The undefeated PFL champion is part of a new wave of hunters with well-completed skills to go around with strong marketability.

Despite his new fame and fortune, Jean still teaches those who have paved the way, including UFC Hall of Famer Georges St-Pierre.

Thad Jean credit Georges St-Pierre for unconscious assistance with PFL-title gain

St-Pierre, who retired after his victory over Michael Bisping at UFC 217, is considered a role model for many emerging hunters. He is considered one of the greatest hunters in the UFC history after several goodweight title government and a whole series of victories over legendary names.

St-Pierre, like Jean, had to deal with wrestling-heavy matchups on his climb to staring. He dominated the will of Josh Koscheck, Jake Shields and Matt Hughes during his legendary career.

Only a few hours before the greatest fight of his life in the PFL World Tournament, Jean was inspired by St-Pierre when adding an important element to his game plan.

In a recent interview about the Ariel Helwani show, Jean explained how St-Pierre unknowingly played a major role in his preparation for Storley.

“I watched a lot of GSP,” said Jean.

“I saw him use his puncture a lot in one of the fights where he went against a wrestler. I forgot the name of the wrestler …

“But I saw him use his jab a lot, and in this fight I really used my puncture because I looked at that fight.”

Storley was a four-time NCAA Division I All-American Wrestler in Minnesota before making the full-time switch to MMA. His loss for Jean broke a three-fighter-winning series.

Jean insured the PFL title after recent victories on Jason Jackson, Mukhaed Berkhamov and Ali Omar.

Georges St-Pierre closed the comeback attempt of combat sports against former rival

St-Pierre had to return to the sports competition in 2023 before he withdrew due to an injury. ST-Pierre and former UFC title finer Nick Diaz would collide in a wrestling game at a UFC Fight Pass Invitational Card.

Since he retires from MMA, St-Pierre remains active and regularly trains with some of the brightest young stars in sport. Despite various offers to lure ST-Pierre back to the Octagon, he remains in adequate in his retirement posture.

St-Pierre was briefly connected to a super fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2020 before Nurmagomedov hung up the gloves. Nurmagomedov walked away after a victory over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254.
