MyLes Lewis-Skelly enjoyed a brilliant breakout year in Arsenal last season, because he made a total of 43 performances at the age of only 18 and now seems to be the first choice of the club.
Arsenal star Myles Lewis-Skelly has praised his “demanding” manager Mikel Arteta while praising the Spaniard because he had kept his players according to the highest possible standards.
The left back of the teenager enjoyed an excellent breakthrough season in the Emirates last season after he had a chance at the age of just 18 years. Lewis-Skelly has wasted little time to make an impact while making 15 starts in the Premier League and seven in the Champions League.
His performances were rewarded with his very first English cap ever after the new three Lions boss had given him a debut against Albania, in which he scored his first goal.
The young person discussed his rise to prominence in an interview with GQ Magazine and powered Arteta because he made sure that he and other Arsenal stars were always on their “A-Game”.
When asked how the Spaniard was to work under, he said: “Required and in the best way. He holds you to a high standard, and if you don't satisfy it, he will let you know about it.
“You can't get away with being crazy in training; you have to be on your A game and apply yourself.”
Lewis-Skelly said that another factor in his rapid rise of the first team was his ability to learn quickly and added that he always wanted to observe other top players in the training.
“I would say that is one of my super strengths,” he added. “My ability to quickly record information and process it has helped the team to recognize my skills.
“I know where to be and what I should expect from another player in a situation, and it all comes from the exercise and watching other great players.”
One of those players is Declan Rice, whom he called a “sensational leader” and also reserved praise for Bukayo Saka because of their “similar trips” via the Academy.
“I will certainly say Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka,” he said. “Dec is a sensational leader, someone who knows what to say at the right time at the right time. Bukayo had a similar journey like mine, so I asked him a lot of questions about how it was for him and what helped him.”
Lewis-Skelly has played a total of 43 times for Arsenal so far and seems to be the first choice left-back for Ricardo Calafiori and Oleksandr Zinchenko for the 2025-26 season.
