Liverpool ‘in talks with Bundesliga club over Harvey Elliott transfer’

RB Leipzig reportedly opened the first conversations with Liverpool about signing midfielder Harvey Elliott.

According to athletics, the Bundesliga side has contacted the Premier League champions to discuss a possible deal.

The German club is said to have focused Elliott as a possible replacement for Dutch international Xavi Simons.

Simons was omitted from the RB Leipzig team for their pre-season friendly during the weekend in the midst of intense speculation about his future.

The attacking midfielder is strongly connected this summer to a move to Chelsea.

However, Elliott was in action on Monday when Liverpool Back-to-Back held friendly matches against Athletic Club in Anfield.

Elliott scored in the 4-1 victory of Liverpool on the LaLiga side in their opening match of the double header.

The midfielder admitted earlier this summer that he might have to consider his future in the club.

It followed Elliott and only started two games in the Premier League, both came after the Reds had given the title.

The arrival of Florian Wirtz seems to have hindered his chances of first team minutes.

Elliott seemed to indicate his intention for the summer when he admitted that he cannot continue to waste 'years' of his career.

“It's just a situation that I and the team have to have a conversation about me, because now I come to an age where I am 22, I am going to turn 23 next season, and I don't really want to waste years of my career, because it is a short career,” Elliott said.

'I just want to improve and be the best possible version of myself and the best player I can be.

“If that goes somewhere else, then it's a decision that I have to make and I just have to see what happens.”

Elliott is popular with Reds supporters after 147 races for the club.

Elliott had underlined his quality by being named a player of the tournament of the European Championship, after having scored five times in six games under the England route who defended their title.

Reports have claimed that Liverpool Elliott would consider £ 40 million if a buy-back clause is inserted in the deal of £ 50 million without.
