Barca could lose Olmo for FREE in January if they can’t raise funds to keep him

Barcelona could lose their £51m summer signing for free in January, it has emerged.

The club continues to face financial problems off the field and is in a race against time to raise funds or risk losing its midfield star for nothing when the winter window arrives.

Dani Olmo, one of the stars of Spain's 2024 European Championship-winning campaign in the summer, joined Barca from German side RB Leipzig on a six-year contract, although there were registration issues at the time.

The Catalans announced a partnership with the club's hospitality provider Aramark, a deal reportedly worth around £34 million. However, they needed to raise more money, which they ultimately did through their partnership with Nike.

However, Mundo Deportivo have reported that the 26-year-old has only been registered for the first half of the season and his side face another battle to secure his services for the second half.

In total, he made 12 appearances for his new side this season, scoring six goals and helping them to the top of the LaLiga table.

At the start of the season, it was reported that Barca accepted a six-month registration for Olmo as a compromise, with the player himself agreeing to a one-year registration when he joined.

It was thought that the club had used the salary space of Andreas Christensen, who was struggling with injuries around his Achilles tendon.

President Joan Laporta is reported to have claimed that there will be no problems for the club in terms of registering the player, but this is not the first time that Barcelona have found themselves in this situation.

In the summer of 2022, the club raised more than £700 million by using 'leverage', selling shares in the club's future operations.

That came just a year after club legend and football icon Lionel Messi left because his salary did not fit within the league's new salary cap.

In July 2023, meanwhile, it was reported that Barcelona were about to use their last economic lever by selling another stake in Barca Studios.

It is reported that Olmo's contract with the club could include a condition that would allow him to leave for free if he is not registered for the second half of the season.

However, it is also believed that the player himself has full confidence in the club to solve the problem and focuses on matters on the field rather than matters off the field.

Barcelona is considering selling VIP box rights in packages over the next twenty years to raise more money. However, it is suggested that more resources need to be deployed to achieve the required reimbursement.
