Man Utd is warned Sesko is just another Rasmus Hojlund by Sir Alex Ferguson ally

Former coach Rene Meulensteen from Manchester United believes that the Red Devils Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins should sign instead of RB Leipzig -striker Benjamin Sesko

Manchester United has been warned about signing Benjamin Sesko and insisted on Ollie Watkins to bring in Ollie Watkins. The Red Devils seem to win the Race for Sesko after he appeared that he made it clear that he would rather come to them over Newcastle.

Former coach Rene Meulensteen, who worked under Sir Alex Ferguson in Old Trafford, is not convinced by Sesko and believes that the move is “exactly what they did with Rasmus Hojlund”.

Hojlund came to the Club of Atalanta in 2023, but the 22-year-old has difficulty having a lot of impact and only manage 26 goals in 95 performances in all competitions.

With Poker Strategy, Meulensteen said: “The bid from Manchester United on Benjamin Sesko is actually exactly what they did with Rasmus Hojlund.

“If he scores in the first three or four games and gets to the ground, he could be the answer for the club, but there is an opportunity that will not happen. If you look at Hojlund, he will join Atalanta and performed well next to the rest of the team and then joined United.

“The same can be said for Sesko – The Bundesliga is a very different competition than the Premier League, so he has to adapt. Has Sesko potential? 100%, but he is still young and he develops and he is not the completed article.”

Instead, Meulensteen believes that his former club could be better served, the signing of Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, which is a more proven raw material and scored 75 goals in 184 Premier League performances.

“I look at someone like Ollie Watkins who may be available,” explained Meulensteen. “He is a hard-working player with similar functions such as Sesko, except that he already has Premier League experience that is priceless.

“I think Sesko would probably also cost more than Watkins. Why does the club not put in Watkins and let the coaches work closely with Hojlund to have him developed?

“Otherwise it is a waste of an investment – they have paid nearly £ 80 million for him and they are in danger of selling him less than half of it, unless he develops.”
