Evan Ferguson (20) has confirmed the reports that before he wanted to sign him at West Ham United on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion, Olympique de Marseille, in a recent interview with the Italian Outlet La Gazzetta Dello Sport.
Marseille wanted to add a number nine to their ranks in January, after a disappointing spell of six months from Elye Wahi (22), who had had trouble fulfilling the pressure of a large movement of RC lens and was quickly moved to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Les Phocéens eventually turned to Amine Gouiri (25), who scored 10 and, after his move, helped three in the middle season of Stade Rennais. However, Marseille was interested in bringing Ferguson to the Stade Vélodrome, where the Irish International would have been reunited with his former head coach Roberto de Zerbi.
The Zerbi had previously told the press during his time Brighton coached that Ferguson had the potential to become one of the best strikers in Europe. There was something that Ferguson thinks about in his interview with the Italian outlet: “It was really fun, but things change things quickly in football. I want to be one of the best, play well and score goals, help the team. [De Zerbi] sent me a message in January and wanted to take me to Marseille. Now I'm happy to be here [on loan at AS Roma]. “
This summer Ferguson joined Roma on loan while trying to start his career after a difficult few seasons.
