Alan Shearer has described the summer of Newcastle United as a 'nightmare' after the club had missed Benjamin Sesko on top of Spits -with the Sloven who is ready to join Manchester United, although the Eksters play a higher transfer compensation and the chance to compensate.
Although Sesko is not officially added to the Red Devils, Mail Sport understands that the 22-year-old leans heavily to a move to Old Trafford. The range of Man United to RB Leipzig – reportedly slightly less than £ 74 million – is slightly lower than the improved bid of Newcastle of £ 78.2 million, but the player's preference seems clear.
Speaking with Betfair, Newcastle Legend-Pond Alan Shearer gave a destructive assessment of the transfer window of his former club and wondered whether the lack of key staff behind the scenes hinders their business.
“It sounds like Benjamin Sesko had two clubs to choose from in Newcastle and Man United,” said Shearer. 'One that won a trophy last year and now play Champions League football this season – and one that has won nothing, ended 15th and had a terrible season.
'I understand that Man United is a huge football club – not so much a huge football team at the moment. I get it. I understand. It seems that in all respects he prefers a switch to Man United.
'It is again disappointing from Newcastle, another target that seems as if they are going to miss it. And I said it about a week ago – it seems that it has been a disastrous window for Newcastle. '
It marks the newest setback in what a turbulent summer has become for Eddie Howe, whose team also has to do with the uncertainty around Alexander Isak.
The striker has made his wish clear to become a member of Liverpool and was omitted from both training and a recent Team Day Day in the midst of his behavior.
Newcastle rejected an £ 110 million offer from Liverpool and was determined not to sell Isak until a replacement is protected – a plan that is now complicated by the position of Sesko.
“What should have been a brilliant window on the back of the qualification for the Champions League and winning their first trophy for so many years it appears to be a nightmare for the season at the moment,” Shearer added. “They have a lot of work to do to get ready for the season.”
Newcastle has now missed a series of high-profile goals, including Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Joao Pedro and James Trafford and Shearer, has suggested that problems behind the scenes can contribute to the lack of progress.
He continued: 'Why can't Newcastle do business? I don't know if it has to do with the fact that they don't have a CEO or Sporting Director.
'They have known for months that the Chief Executive was left, so I am pretty surprised that none has yet been announced.
'The sports director now left a few months ago and they knew that – so that is a big surprise that those spaces are not filled.
'Whether that has something to do with the lack of things from Newcastle and the number of players who have said no to them, I don't know. It is not good. '
In the meantime, Man United believes that Sesko can be the center of a rebuilt attack under Ruben Amorim.
Sesko scored 21 goals for RB Leipzig last season and has scored more times in the top five in Europe in the last two years than any other player under the 23-inclusive Jude Bellingham and Florian Wirtz.
Recruitment – director Christopher Vivell – who has previously brought Sesko to Salzburg and Leipzig – played an important role in securing the position of Man United as favorites, and personal conditions between the player and the club would have been agreed.
