It was another night of woe for Wayne Rooney, whose Plymouth side were beaten 2-1 at home by Swansea, extending their winless run to five games.
Just 24 hours after his wife Coleen left I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! camp as a campmate in second place, it was back to reality for the Rooney name as former Manchester United star Wayne lost again.
Rooney was reunited in the dugout on Tuesday evening with a familiar face from his time at Manchester United: Mike Phelan, Sir Alex Ferguson's former assistant manager.
Phelan was appointed assistant head coach of Plymouth on Sunday, but the pair were unable to sprinkle any of their United magic dust on the ailing Pilgrims.
Swansea took the lead just before half-time. Plymouth defender Brendan Galloway was caught trying to control a blistering cross into the penalty area, his touch putting the ball on the plate for Jay Fulton, who coolly placed the ball past goalkeeper Daniel Grimshaw.
On the hour mark the Swans doubled their lead through Liam Cullen, who sent in a cross at the back post. Mustapha Bundu's header in the 79th minute failed to spark a comeback as Rooney's team left empty-handed once again.
Tymon gave a hint of what was to come in the fourth minute with a close-range cross that had to be turned away by recalled Hungarian international centre-back Kornel Szucs.
Tymon's next cross from the left, after an exquisite give-and-go from Swansea playmaker Eom Ji-sung, flew over goal and screamed for a finishing touch in the twelfth minute.
Argyle countered with Adam Randell, allowing Bundu to drive in from the right and unleash a thumping shot, which had to be deflected for a corner in the 16th minute.
The home side's next best chance came from a Randell free-kick in the 32nd minute that Bundu headed over from distance. Randell's free-kick in the 38th minute from 18 yards, after Ben Cabango's foul on Callum Wright, was then headed away by a defender in the wall.
Bundu and Wright were prominent in the home side's next attack, after Eom was tackled by Randell in the Argyle penalty area. He sent Bundu clear down the right and as he turned in on the touchline his pass put Wright through on goal, but his first ball into the area was easily cleared by the resolute Swans defence.
The opener came when Brendan Galloway's ball fell invitingly to Fulton, who finished clinically from 10 yards, giving home guard Grimshaw little chance with the first shot on target of the first half.
Eom came close with a fantastic shot from the left in the 56th minute that flew just wide from 20 yards. But City increased their score when Cullen slid in and smashed home at the far post after Myles Peart-Harris' measured cross from the right.
The visitors were unlucky not to take the lead a few minutes later from another Peart-Harris cross, but Fulton just failed to get the finishing touch as the Argyle defense went cold again.
Rooney said after the match: 'I'm frustrated and disappointed. 'In the first half I felt we were the better team and after the first ten minutes we played good football. Then we get hit with a sucker punch, the goal.
“Once you achieve that first goal, you have something to hold on to. There is no denying that we know we are going through a difficult time. We are without four key players, but tonight was an improvement on the last two results.'
Elsewhere, Sunderland maintained their unbeaten home record in the league this season, with Patrick Roberts' injury-time stoppage preventing Bristol City from securing all three points.
Building on a poor clearance from the Black Cats in the penalty area, Luke McNally broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute.
But Roberts came to Sunderland's rescue in the 93rd minute to secure a share of the points at the Stadium of Light.
A late goal from Elijah Adebayo saw Luton beat Stoke 2-1, while BURNLEY missed the chance to jump into the top two, drawing 0-0 at home to Derby.
Backurn meanwhile moved five points off the automatic promotion places as they beat Sheffield Wednesday 1–0 through Makhtar Gueye's first goal for the club.
