Riyad Mahrez returned this week to the Manchester City training field and joined the current stars for a nostalgic visit.
The 34-year-old, who played a leading role in the most successful era of the city, was seen by the Etihad campus and laughed with familiar faces.
Mahrez came to City from Leicester in 2018 and then scored 78 goals in 236 performances, giving them four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and a Champions League title.
For Rodri, the return was a memory of those golden years. In a playful moment recorded on social media, he compared the Algerian cult hero with one of the summer signs of the city.
Rodri told Mahrez playfully, points to £ 32 million attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki: “He is like you.”
Cherki came to City from Lyon this summer and arrived before their club World Cup campaign, where he once scored in four games.
The six seasons of Mahrez in Manchester saw him 78 goals and 59 assists achieve in 236 performances, cementing his place as one of Guardiola's most reliable broad men.
His contributions were crucial in the four Triumphs of the four Premier League title of City, in particular the 2021-22 campaign when he finished as top scorer of the club with 24 goals in all competitions.
He also played an important role in waiting City for Champions League Glory in 2023.
In July 2023, the Algerian completed a relocation of £ 30 million to Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League, with a lucrative deal of four years.
Since then he has continued to show his quality in the Middle East, making him quickly one of the headline attractions of the competition alongside the wave of high-profile European import.
Mahrez has scored 29 goals in 78 performances for Al-Ahli, which means that they are guiding to third and fifth place in his two seasons.
