Real Madrid is looking for a new midfielder and they have identified Rodri Hernandez from Manchester City as their primary target. The 2024 Ballon d'Or winner, who previously played for Atletico Madrid, has long been admired by santiago Bernabeu officials, and this can be taken into action – although it is unlikely that it will happen this summer.
Real Madrid has not replaced Toni Kroos since his retirement 12 months ago, and that cost them last season. As such, club bosses would like to do this ideally before the end of the summer, although they would be against it – especially with regard to Rodri, who recently suffered injury, which means that he will not return to action until September.
Nevertheless, it was unlikely that Real Madrid would take a step this summer, despite reports that they would be willing to spend € 115 million on Rodri. 2026 would be the ideal moment to strike, although that would only happen if the 29-year-old had not written a new contract with Man City before that time.
The Premier League side has presented a new contract for their Star midfielder, but according to Diario he has not yet made a decision about where his future is in the long term. That is why there are growing concerns among the city officials of humans, who would have seen what happened when Real Madrid succeeded in convincing Alexander-Arnold not to expand with Liverpool.
There is no doubt that Rodri would be an excellent addition to Real Madrid, despite the fact that he will be 30 next summer. However, there will be some doubts about whether he can return to his pre-ACL injuries, since he was not at his best during the club World Cup 2025.
It is still to be seen whether Rodri ends up in the Bernabeu, but in this stage there seems to be a growing optimism that this can happen.
