Wrexham started six debutants in their 2-1 defeat by Southampton on Saturday and shoot for another big signature, with Phil Parkinson aimed at experienced players
Wrexham hopes to continue their ambitious summer transfer window by signing Jack Robinson from Sheffield United. The side of Phil Parkinson has already brought in a number of high -profile new players after reaching the championship, but still wants more additions.
The Welsh side started their campaign in the second layer with a 2-1 defeat by Southampton on Saturday. Wrexham took the lead through the penalty of Josh Windass, but was amazed by two late goals from Ryan Manning and Jack Stephens after missing the opportunities to bring the game to bed.
There were a number of promising versions of new faces, but it is clear that Parkinson's still believes that Wrexham is not for quality. Robinson is a hugely experienced defender, who spent most of his career in the championship for QPR, Nottingham Forest, Huddersfield and Sheffield United.
The 31-year-old, who started his career in Liverpool and became the youngest player who played for the club when he made his debut at the age of 16 in 2010, wants to become a member of Wrexham according to the Sun. The negotiations were reportedly in an advanced phase last week, but were fixed after the knives had sold fellow center-back Anel Ahmedhodzic to Feyenoord.
It is still to be seen whether United will punish the sale of the defender, which has made 159 performances for the club since he came from Forest in 2020. Robinson came from the bank and wore the Captain's bracelet in their 4-1 Bonnnissen by Bristol City in their opening championship match of the season on Saturday.
Wrexham has invested heavily since reaching League One and signed a number of proven championships. Goalkeeper Danny Ward, defenders Liberato Cacace and Conor Coady, midfielders George Thomason and Lewis O'Brien and Forwards Ryan Hardie, Kieffer Moore and Windass have all become members so far.
They have insisted in recent weeks to sign Ipswich wing player Nathan Broadhead, but the Welsh International has not yet made the move. Speaking for the trip to St Mary's, Parkinson said: “I honestly know nothing today, whether there have been developments now. He is the player of Ipswich Town. Until I tell it differently, that's the way it stays.”
More generally talked about transfers, the Wrexham boss added: “There are a number of deals that we are currently looking for, so I think it is a bit unfair to go into the season to comment on the players of other teams who are under contract.
“But there are several opportunities we look at and hopefully we can make the right calls to keep improving what we have.”
Parkinson's played six debutants against Southampton in the form of Ward, Cacace, Coady, O'Brien, Moore and Windass, while Hardie came off the bank. “I think when we think, it is a very proud day for the club that plays at this level and there were many positives for us,” he said.
“The new boys came in and did very well, but the existing players too, I thought they were really good. That gives us a big heart for the coming season.”
