Mats Hummels ex-wife claimed that the seven-year-old son of the couple was not aware of his father's farewell match for Borussia Dortmund.
Hummels, who left Dortmund at the end of the 2023-24 season, returned to the club on Sunday for a farewell match.
A total of 80,000 fans were present in the Signal Iduna Park for a friendly between Dortmund and Juventus.
Hummels captain the Bundesliga side for the opening of 18 minutes of the game, who officially marked his retirement of professional football.
The 36-year-old was welcomed by the crowd and his model friend Nicola Cavanis, 26.
However, the former defender, who made 508 performances in all matches for Dortmund, was not accompanied by his son Ludwig at the game.
His ex-wife Cathy shared a photo of their son on social media on the morning of the competition, with a newspaper with Hummels and the headline 'Mats Gut'.
She wrote: 'Someone stolen my cap and read about Dad's farewell in the newspaper. So he knows what it was like. “
In a follow -up message later in the day, Cathy confirmed that she was not aware of the farewell match of Hummel and claimed that she had only discovered it when reading the newspaper.
Instead, Cathy confirmed that she was on holiday with Ludwig in Lake Chiemsee in Bavaria.
'To clarify: we do not intentionally miss the last game of Mats Hummels. I put my son an extra newspaper so that he can read everything, “she wrote.
'The reason we are not there has just disappeared: we were not invited or knew about it. We now enjoy our wonderful holiday with the family again.
“Goodbye Aussensraat 15. Congratulations on your remarkable career.”
It is said that Hummels refused to comment when he was contacted by Bild to a response to the claim of his ex-wife.
Cathy had previously claimed in an interview with the Germany newspaper that she 'more or less opflexized'.
Hummels was split with his ex-wife in 2022 after seven years of marriage.
A year later, Hummels became public with his new girlfriend Cavanis, who deserved fame by modeling for people such as Nivea, Puma, Victoria's Secret, MCM, New Yorker and Tchibo.
Hummels had represented Dortmund in two spells, in which the defender initially played for the club between 2009 and 2016, before moving to Bayern Munich.
He returned for a second spell between 2019 and 2024, ending the latter after an alleged bust with then manager Edin Terzic after the final of the Champions League last year.
Hummels then had a season in the Serie A with Roma, before the veteran defender chose to retire this summer.
He claimed five Bundesliga titles during his career, two with Dortmund and three with Bayern, together with three German cups and five super cups.
Hummels was a member of the victory side of Germany in 2014, while he was twice per second with Dortmund in 2013 and 2024.
