The Paraguayan international is in London after finishing the season with Inter Miami as a major multi-million dollar transfer has been agreed.
Diego Gómez has officially become part of Inter Miami history. The Paraguayan midfielder currently lives in London and signs his contract with Brighton & Hove Albion. As reported by AS, the Herons will receive around $17 million for the former Olimpia star, marking a record transfer fee for Jorge Mas and David Beckham's club.
Gómez has signed a five-year contract, tying him to Brighton until June 2030, and he will officially join the team when the transfer window opens on January 1, 2025.
“We are just waiting for the official date to make the announcements, but everything is going well. We are very happy with everything that is happening for Diego Gómez. This is just the beginning: he is young and still has a lot of room for improvement,” said Renato Bittar, the player's agent.
“There are still a few details to be finalized, but it's only a matter of time. We are waiting for the market to open to complete the paperwork, but everything is on track,” he added.
Signed from Paraguay in July 2023, Gómez established himself as one of South America's most promising midfielders this season. Under the leadership of Tata Martino, the Paraguayan developed into a crucial player in Fort Lauderdale, who was often considered untouchable. Gómez partnered Busquets in midfield and enjoyed his best individual season, scoring five goals and providing six assists in all competitions. However, his greatest achievement came in Paraguay, where he played a crucial role in securing the Albirroja's qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Gomez expands Hürzeler options at Brighton
Diego joins a highly competitive Brighton side who are currently battling for a European place in the English top flight. Rather than being loaned out, the plan is for him to stay and fight for a place alongside O'Riley, Baleba, Matts Wieffer, Ayari and Hinshelwood. At the Falmer Stadium, Gómez will reunite with Julio Enciso, one of his closest confidantes from Paraguay, although Enciso's future at the club remains uncertain. The Premier League now awaits its latest rising star.
