The Rossoneri's Champions League campaign continues at San Siro on Wednesday, but they will have to make do without the USMNT star.
With three wins and two defeats in their first five games, AC Milan still have work to do if they want to progress to the knockout round of the Champions League. The Rossoneri will be the favorites when they take on Crvena Zvezda at San Siro on Wednesday, but will be without a key player.
USMNT star Christian Pulisic has emerged as one of Milan's most important players but has been ruled out of the midweek match. Pulisic was substituted in last week's Serie A defeat to Atalanta and was later diagnosed with a mild tear in the right calf muscle.
In his absence, AC Milan head coach Paulo Fonseca could look to call on Ruben Loftus-Cheek to replace him.
Christian Pulisic's return date to AC Milan
A definitive timetable for his return has not yet been released, but it appears Pulisic will spend the rest of 2024 on the sidelines. This injury comes as AC Milan enters a crucial phase of the season, with important domestic fixtures and the final match of the UCL competition looming.
In addition to the visit of Crvena Zvezda, it appears that Pulisic will miss an important match against Roma on December 29. He faces a race against time to return for the Supercoppa Italiana semi-final against Juventus on January 3.
A win against Crvena zvezda would position Milan well in Europe, with two more winnable games against Girona (home) and Dinamo Zagreb (away) to follow. Yet the AC Milan boss is taking nothing for granted ahead of Wednesday's match.
“We will have to deal with a physical side. They are good on the counter and have fast attackers,” Fonseca said about Crvena zvezda. “For us it will be a difficult and important match that we have to win. I feel protected by the Club, whose support I have always felt.”
