Liverpool's pursue from Newcastle United Spits Alexander Isak marks an important change in the approach of the club for transfers in the past decade, while they want to bring in the rush hour
Liverpool's wish to sign Alexander Isak represents the club that breaks a decade-long trend to avoid movements for proven Premier League strikers. The Reds have been careful with buying established advanced students of the English top flight since he signed Christian Benteke from Aston Villa in 2015.
Newcastle United rejected the enormous offer of £ 110 million from Liverpool for Isak, which last season yielded 23 league goals. The attacker trains separately from the first team of Newcastle and reportedly refused to play for the club again, despite the insistence of Newcastle that he is not on the market.
It has already been a busy summer for Liverpool, with their lush editions for players such as Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike who contrast sharply last year. However, the Reds are still working on more signing sessions and a deal for Isak would mark a huge shift in the transfer policy of the club.
In 2015, Liverpool pronounced £ 32.5 million at Benteke from Villa, where he had scored an impressive 49 goals in 101 games. Despite high expectations of the Belgian in Anfield, he was sold only a year later to Crystal Palace after scoring 10 in 42 performances. Since then, the club has avoided to risk the same mistake.
Benteke arrived in the same summer as Roberto Firmino, who became a crucial component in the attack of Liverpool and the Premier League and Champions League won during his time at the Reds. Brendan Rodgers also brought Danny ings from the relegated Burnley shortly before he signed Benteke.
The following season, Liverpool Sadio Mane from Southampton signed, although the Senegalese star was not a traditional striker, who often operated on the wing under Jurgen Klopp. The same case could be argued for the arrival of versatile attacker Diogo Jota van Wolves in 2020.
When it was time to buy a new Center-Forward, the Reds chose to recruit Darwin Nunez from Benfica three years ago, instead of a Premier League target. In the meantime, the move from Dominic Solanke to Liverpool from Chelpool in 2017 does not match Benteke's selection framework or the possible record -breaking transfer from Isak.
Isak will not come to Aston Villa in Newcastle's season opener on Saturday.
Newcastle -Baas Howe has dropped a huge hint about the future of Isak and has talked honestly about the impact of the transfer -Saga on his team and admitted that his party has already been forced to adapt to life without Isak.
“I don't think it's healthy for us,” said Howe. “I don't deny that that has been a big challenge. Alex is one of the best strikers in the world for me – if not the best. Missing him of your team leaves a huge gap.
“I think it was certainly struck for morals early during the preseason,” he continued. “There was nothing I could do to influence that – it would always be there.
“If you have a player who is so good who is not part of your group, it is difficult for the players to fully understand and know what is going on and how to respond.
“But as time passes, there has been an acceptance, this is the team and we have to get the best out of the situation. That has always been my line of thought.
“In whatever situation you are, you have to find a way and you can only determine what you can control. We have improved and I have to say that the atmosphere of the group has been very good in recent weeks.”
