Van Wrexham is said to be considering a movement for the former Arsenal defender Calum Chambers, who was highly praised during his time in Aston Villa by the then manager Steven Gerrard during Aston Villa
Wrexham has paid their attention to making a dip for a former Arsenal star who is loved by Steven Gerrard after completing a £ 10 million for Nathan Broadhead. The club supported by Hollywood broke their transfer record for the third time this summer after signing the Ipswich Town on Thursday.
As soon as the ink that Deal had dried up, reports arose that Wrexham now sees former Gunners Center-back Calum Chambers as their next recruit. Despite the fact that he has already brought nine new faces, manager Phil Parkinson is supposed to be too happy to land at least one extra defender before the transfer window closes.
Chambers started his career in Southampton as a young person before moving to Arsenal in the summer of 2014. The 30-year-old appeared 122 performances for the Premier League side and then left for signing for Aston Villa in January 2022.
He is currently playing for Cardiff City in League One and, according to Talksport, has attracted the attention of the New Boys Wrexham championship. Chambers only signed for the Bluebirds last year, but suffered during his first relegation campaign.
Despite the fact that he is left for another two years on his contract and starting Cardiff's first two games of the season, he is also considered interesting for the second -class rivals of Wrexham, Sheffield United. The adaptability of Chambers would make him an attractive prospect for Parkinson's, where the experienced defender can be pressed in different roles, including in a backline of three men.
During his time in Villa Park, he earned praise from the then manager Steven Gerrard of the club. The Liverpool legend greeted the qualities of Chambers after completing a 3-0 League victory against Leeds United in March 2022 with a stunning goal.
“He has been a class, on and next to the field,” said Gerrard. “He has been a real pleasure to work with. I thought that was the knockout out tonight, to get the third goal in the way we did it.
“That was the knockout blow and from that moment it was about keeping a clean slate and everyone who got his buzz also out of it, because everyone is responsible for scoring goals and everyone had to be responsible for keeping the ball out.”
Chambers, who recently received the Captain's bracelet in Cardiff, was questioned last week about the setback to drop a division in his debut season. Although the news about the interest of Wrexham still had to arise, he maintained his dedication to his current club at the time.
“I'm happy to be here,” he said. “You can't predict what happens in football. You just have to enjoy the journey and that's what I do. The manager has been great since he arrives.
“Pre-season went really well. Everyone buzzes, the boys are very enthusiastic, with the style and identity we have now, I think it works amazingly with the group and the players we have.
“I feel that there is a real identity about us and a path in the way we want to play. The atmosphere around the place is really good.”
