Jamie Carragher admits he fears for £79m Liverpool signing if Alexander Isak joins the club this summer

Jamie Carragher has expressed concern about the future of one of Liverpool's expensive summer signing sessions because of the aim of the Reds on Alexander Isak.

Liverpool spent large this summer and is already splashing £ 321 million at Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong.

They have also had one offer for Isak, where Newcastle waited to sign a striker themselves before they establish an offer that the £ 100 million should be good for their star man.

In the meantime, Isak has not made itself available for selection in an attempt to push a movement to the Reds, and Liverpool is expected to split it again to sign him in the window later.

However, he would be the second striker that Liverpool would sign this summer. Hugo Ekitike previously arrived for this window for £ 79 million and is currently the first choice no. 9 – a position that Isak would probably take if he became a member.

According to Carragher, that is a concern, in which Liverpool spends big on Ekitike – but perhaps not a place for him in their best team if they get the Isak deal in such.

“We spoke with Arne Slot a few days ago and asked him about the situation,” said Carragher on Sky Sports prior to the Liverpool collision with Bournemouth on the first day of the new Premier League season. 'He [Ekitike] Can play on the left and in a front two. The only thing for me where I ask Isak -thing is that I am not entirely sure if the boy will get minutes in his favorite position.

'It's at the front – it's hard to pay the two together because of Wirtz in the 10. He plays every game he is suitable for and so is Isak. He will probably fill in for Isak if he was the one who came in, but I don't know if he would ever fulfill his full potential at the club if you buy someone like Isak. '

Gary Neville in the meantime threw back to his Manchester United Days, then depth at the front of the key. He differed from the opinion of Carragher, which suggests that Ekitike would be in order.

“I think three or four strikers have always been the norm,” he said. 'You play Isak, but Ekitike plays 20 or 25 games and then come from the couch in another 20 and you get 45 games from him.

'£ 80m does not feel like an understudy price, it feels like he should be a starting player, but maybe Liverpool is at a level where they have the money and the team where it is a second striker and that is the quality they want to support him if he gets an injury. Perhaps for us it is psychological dealing with the price. '

Carragher added: 'I only think from the point of view of a manager. The players in the dressing room, there is a hierarchy. When you spend that money, Isak becomes one of them, such as Alisson, such as Van Dijk, such as Salah.

'Sometimes you have competition and sometimes players are an understudy. When Isak comes in, Ekitike is an understudy and £ 80 million is much for an understudy. '
