Miedema expected to return for Man City in January, says Taylor

Gareth Taylor expects Vivianne Miedema to take action again for Manchester City in January after the knee operation.

The 28-year-old has not been standing for City since their Champions League victory on Barcelona on October 9, and will be operated on later that month.

Miedema, who came to City after leaving Arsenal at the end of last season, made only five performances in all competitions this period and scored two goals.

However, it is not expected that she will be on the field again before the winter break of the Super League of the Women, even when Taylor confirmed that she has performed her recovery.

“Viv is back on the field, which is great,” said Taylor. “The reality is that we will not see her in these following three games before we break.

“But we look forward to getting her back at the beginning of January for when we restart, which is a big boost for everyone.”

City has already qualified for the knockout phase after winning all four of their Champions League matches so far and have the opportunity to achieve the first place in their group if they defeat St. St. St. St. St. and do not win Barcelona.

They also won nine of their last 10 games in the Champions League (L1) and have not lost at home since September 2018 in the competition (0-2 v Atletico Madrid). This season they scored two or more goals in each of their four games in the competition.

In October they walked to a 3-2 victory over St. Pussy in the reverse fixture thanks to an 80-minute Mary Fowler goal, and Taylor is determined to get another important result against the Austrian side to their chances of the to achieve top spot.

“When you looked at the nature of the group, we knew we were there with a number of good teams and a very good team, which have been at the top for a long time,” he said.

“We had no illusions that we were doing work, but we will take it very much as boring as it sounds per game.

“Before you know it, we are four games in, top in the competition, who may have surprised a few people, but for us it will now take place in these last two games.

“The first goal is achieved; second goal is we can finish the top of the group.”
