Barcelona attacker Marcus Rashford has admitted that he is not most suitable for playing number nine, even though he plays comfortably in the front line. The Manchester United attacker is confronted with a tough task to get himself in the start XI in Barcelona, with Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal for him.
Undoubtedly Ferran Torres also runs ahead of Rashford in the pecking order, certainly to play through the middle. Rashford gave an in -depth interview to the rest is football, with Gary Lineker and Micah Richards, in which he gave his perspective on why Manchester United struggled for so long, and the early days of his adaptation to life in Barcelona. He was able to make his debut against RCD Mallorca on Saturday evening, after Barcelona managed to register him at the last minute.
During the interview, Rashford also explained where he was most comfortable in the forward line.
“My favorite position is from the left. But it does change. It depends on who you play with, from whom you receive the ball. I loved the right when I was young, but when I started to drive in, it is different if I control and accelerates the ball with my right and then left. Now I can check that faster with my left than straight.”
“For me when I am at my best, you have the freedom to operate the back line, but it is easiest for me to do the rotation of the left. I think it is more natural to play the shoulder of the defender on the left. But it depends on it, there are games that I see and think, I wanted to play there.”
There is certainly a thinking school among Barcelona fans that the place where Rashford has a chance to win in the starting XI can now be won through the middle, with Robert Lewandowski 36 years old, and the other two among the favorites for the Ballon d'Or. Yet Rashford feels that he fog nine the selfishness of a natural number.
“That's why I probably can't be a number nine consistently [passing when others may shoot]. Don't get me wrong, I love scoring goals. But if I have the feeling that I force it and I know I miss other photos of the game. There is often that I do not photograph because the opportunities that it is blocked and missing a chance is not for me, but for the team, is high. “
“But I also think that if I can get it through his legs … I am also aware that I have to shoot more often, because you have to be selfish at this level to play number nine. I am convinced that if I do things well, opportunities and goals will come.”
“If I go back to midfield, the game is easier, because everything is ahead. You are confronted with it. If you are always the same on the backline, you can't see everything the defender can. When I was younger, it was easier, you had more time in midfield. Nowadays you have to know when you have time to turn it.”
Rashford mainly played from the left during the preseason, but started their last pre -season match against Como through the middle.
