OFFICIAL: Nottingham Forest have signed James McAtee from Man City for £30m

Nottingham Forest is pleased to announce the signing of James McATEE, who signed a five -year -old deal.

Mcatee joins the club after he recently lifted UEFA under-21 in June 2025, when he supplied the young lions of England and turned out to be a crucial figure in front of Lee Carsley, including a player of the match performance while England defeated Germany 3-2 to lift the trophy.

A creative midfielder with an eye for goal, McATEE scored seven times in 34 performances for his boys' club, Manchester City. He enjoyed two successful spells on loan at Sheffield United from 2022, played 75 times for the knives, scored 14 times and registered eight assists.

It was a season of Primeurs for the midfielder in 2024/25, which yielded his first Premier League goal for City, scored his first career-hat trick in the FA Cup Third Round and his account opened in Europe's largest stage with a goal on his second performance in the Champions League.

With nearly 50 performances in the Premier League and this summer the winning side of Lee Carsley, attached, the 22-year-old joins the club with a wealth of experience at the highest level.

When signing, James McATEE said: “I feel ready for a new challenge and the club had a great season last year, so I want to build on it and show what I can do.

“I am so happy to be here and I am really looking forward to working with my new teammates and I know the ambition of everyone associated with the club, something I want to be part of.”

He is a player we have long admired, and our conversations with Manchester City, James, his family and his representatives have been incredibly constructive in the past month.

“After he had established England on the U21 European Championship title, James took the time to think about his next step -and we are very happy that he has chosen the forest. We are proud to have three extremely exciting young talents from the group that have lifted the U21 euro trophy and now James.

“There was a strong interest in James, but he showed a real determination to participate with us. Our players have been enthusiastic about the possibility that he arrives, and now we can officially welcome him in the group.”
