Alexander Isak is trying to force a transfer to Liverpool and Manchester United Wayne Rooney has shared his thoughts about the future of the Newcastle Striker
Wayne Rooney has set Alexander Isak and wondered if he is the “kind of player” who wants Liverpool in their dressing room after his recent actions. Isak has refused to play for Newcastle in an attempt to go to Liverpool through a move.
The Swedish striker did not go on the Newcastle tour and only trained after the Magpies have rejected an opening offer from Liverpool earlier this month. After they missed their 0-0 draw against Aston Villa on Saturday, fans of Newcastle took on Isak with a singing of “There is only one greedy B ******”.
And Rooney believes that Isak's attempts to force Newcastle to sell the opposite effect on him. “The Geordies are a passionate fan base, it will be difficult for him to come back,” said Rooney at the BBC match of the day.
“But also for his teammates, I think as a teammate you expect your teammates to come and train every day to give everything on the training pitch and when you put on the shirt to play.
“The fact that he refuses to come in and train is very difficult for him to come back. He just went in the wrong way. Maybe he is advised incorrectly. But you also have to wonder if that is the kind of player you want.
“Someone who is going to leave his teammates and runs away from a huge football club. It is a good opportunity to go to Liverpool, but it has to be done in the right way.”
However, Newcastle -Baas Eddie Howe has claimed that there is still a way back for Isak in St James' Park. “Nothing has changed,” said Howe reporters after Newcastle's draw with Villa.
“The door is good and really open, but he has to decide what he wants to do. We want a resolution. The property, everyone, the players we have, want that clarity. You don't need a distraction.
“I have no control over that. There is only one person who has control over. Alex has control over what he does. I have no control over him.
“We are actively looking at the market. We work hard to get players, more from hope than expected.”
