Despite his spectacular victory of the UFC 319, Khamzat Chimaev probably kicks himself after he has missed a historic octagon record.
Offered his premiere title fight in the promotion, undefeated star Khamzat Chimaev did not disappoint.
In combination with the dominant Drus Du Plessis, Chechen Ster Chimaev rode a completely unilateral unanimous decision to land the middleweight crown in the course of five debilitating rounds for the South African.
Du Plessis was at the receiving end of a stunning 12 successful deletions and had no answers for the wrestling and top control of Chimaev.

Chimaev learns in the history books with his victory, but is probably unhappy that he did not find himself on that first page of that specific publication.
Khamzat Chimaev has just missed a historic UFC record
Chimaev was on the receiving side of only one successful Takedown by Pretoria -Ieemse du Plessis, and was landed on his back in the Octagon for the first time in those circumstances.
In the course of the five-round battle, Chimaev is hardly Du Plessis in the course of the five-round fight, an near-record setting performance in the process.
On the ground against the defending champion, Chimaev picked up an incredible 21 minutes and 40 seconds control time in the five -round collision.
And missing the record books of the narrowest margins does not shoot at the most control time in a title fight in the history of Octagon.

To find that record, you have to go all the way back to 2007, when Sean Sherk successfully defended his title against Hermes Franca.
On that occasion, Sherk would collect a stunning 22 minutes and 18 seconds total control time against the challenger at UFC 73.
And while he misses that record, Chimaev is not a stranger when it comes to the ink of his name in the history books.
Khamzat Chimaev's History Making UFC Start
Chimaev, then a relatively unknown figure under mixed martial arts fans, debuted in the promotion in the promotion, and would debut on a forgetful 'Fight Night' card in the Middle East.
The short work of John Philips with a second round d'Arce Choke victory, in just 10 days – Chimaev had both his debut and second -year outings in the books for the promotion.
The welcome of former Cage Warriors star Rhys McKEE in the organization for his first Stint, Chimaev put the Ballymena striker in the first round of locking up a rear choke victory in just over three minutes.
With his stunning 10-day turning around to fight again, Chimaev made the modern record for the fastest return to action in Octagon Antiquity.
The record of Chimaev would only be one year until Loopy Godinez – with whom he shared the UFC 319 card – only came back seven days after her victory over Silvana Gomez Juarez to fight Luana Carolina on UFC Vegas 40.
