Legendary UFC referee disagrees with GOAT’s criticism of a controversial call made against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 319

In the main event of UFC 319, Khamzat Chimaev dominated from start to finish.

The challenger had control over his first UFC title fight that Chimaev even took the opportunity to speak with Dricus Du Plessis in the Octagon.

Although 'Borz' could fully dictate the fight with his struggles, this did not necessarily ensure the most entertaining competitions.

This led to various stand-ups in the fight that Demetrious Johnson criticized as referee Marc Goddard when they responded to the main event.

'Big' John McCarthy defends Marc Goddard's decision to get up Khamzat Chimaev and Dricus du Plessis

There have been some controversial stand-ups in the past and after the one-sided nature of the UFC 319 event, this card has no example of a very important one.

However, some still felt like Khamzat Chimaev was so completely dominant about Dricus du Plessis that he should not have been called up due to a lack of action.

Iconic referee 'Big' John McCarthy always offers valuable insight into the official of discussions as a veteran of the sport who contributed to creating the uniform rules.

McCarthy argued that he thought that one of Marc Goddard's stand was completely acceptable, despite the fact that it had little impact on the fight.

“I thought one of them was … He is trying to put some kind of action in the fight that might be a bit different. Maybe they will be a bit in the stand-up. You're not going to change that fight.”

He praised the approach of Goddard in general to referees the main event, in particular emphasized how he did not intervene while Chimaev was in dominant positions.

“I am going to be generally, Marc Goddard has done it great in that fight. He let them be. Many people get nervous when people are in crucifix positions and it is as if, there is no reason to get nervous here. Time to get nervous? You start having elbows and you see cuts opening … He did great in that fight.”

Khamzat Chimaev entered the UFC history books with its amazing control time

Khamzat Chimaev registered a remarkable amount of control time in his first UFC title fight, which could have been even higher if there had been no stand -ups.

When controlling Dricus du Plessis for 21 minutes and 40 seconds, 'Borz' has now produced the second highest control time in one fight.

The current record is held by Sean Sherk, who checked Hermes Franca 22 minutes and 18 seconds in a lightweight defense defense on UFC 73 in 2007.

Chimaev also broke the record for most strikes that were landed in one UFC fight at 529.
