A new era has arrived in Vancouver.
Natural leader
The FIFA World Cup winner 2014 took knowledge of the raw support in the same way when he struck the back of the net only a few minutes after the step on the field.
However, the offside flag spoiled a dream debut for the Bundesliga icon.
“The moment I scored the goal, it was great,” said Müller. “The sound in the stadium and then also the reaction of my teammates, it was a great start for me.”
“Too bad for him,” Sørensen said with a smile. “It could have been like a magical moment, as I said, he scored the goal, just came to the field, but a narrow country estate. That is what can happen in football, but I was pretty happy with this performance.”
Potentially the most striking aspect of the debut of the 35-year-old (apart from his unauthorized goal) was his direct leadership on the field of a young Whitecaps team.
“That is a natural behavior of [mine]”Müller said.” When I am on the field, I first try to organize my own position, but if I see something that I think is good for the team, to adapt to positioning or intensity or gaps pass, I will communicate immediately with my teammates.
“I think that will never change, even if it's my first game.”

Another thing that will never change is Müller's ambition. With 34 trophies already in his cabinet, he joins a Vancouver team that still chases three titles this season after making the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup final in June.
Immediately that became Müller's focus as VWFC next Saturday at home the Shield Chase of their supporters will continue against St. Louis City SC (9.30 pm et | MLS Season Pass, Apple TV+)
“I am now fresh in this team, new in the competition,” said Müller. “I need a few weeks to find out what is right or wrong, but to be honest, I feel very good after this game.”
Regarding when the first start of Müller comes?
“If all goes well, we will soon see him in the starting line -up,” Sørensen in advance. “Probably next Saturday, but we have to see if everything is going well. I hope so.”
