The middle back has a clear path to leave Inter, but the Blaugrana club has a hard time signing it.
Barça has a practically complete team, awaiting a last-minute departure, which probably doesn't seem to happen. Despite everything, nothing is excluded in the Blaugrana club and they continue to receive offers for players who fit into the account if there are options to sign them. One of these offers is Benjamin Pavard, a player who was previously in the Baan van Blaugrana and who knows Hansi Flick very well, has coached him in Bayern Munich. He is ready to leave Inter in the last days of the transfer window, and his priority is to continue to play at the highest level in Europe.
The French International fits back with the profile of a versatile center – he can play at the middle of the back or full back – and has extensive international experience. Inter would like to save his salary, but they paid a little more than € 30 million for him two summers ago. In recent days he has been associated with the Neom of Saudi Arabia, but the player has reportedly rejected the range of several millions of dollars for finding a top European team that would enable him to play in the Champions League.
Pavard is in the hands of Agent Pini Zahavi, who represents Robert Lewandowski and Hansi himself. He met Barça president Joan Laporta in Barcelona at the end of last week, with whom he has a close personal relationship. The name is on the table, but Barça has not made progress because the priority is to register Szczesny, Gerard Martín, Marc Bernal and Bardhji in these last days of the transfer window. And there will not be much more, even if the 1: 1 rule is reached, something that is expected before the market closes. The situation is complicated and the sporting directorate is now excluding all movements.
What Deco has put on the table is the option to sign a young center-back with a reserve team number, whose registration is viable and that can enter the dynamics of the first team. The searched profile is more left-wing than with the right foot, after the departure of Indigo Martínez to Saudi Arabia. There are options on the table, but they are also difficult to match because of the salary cap.
From what we have seen so far, everything indicates that Eric Garcia will play a lot on the right side, a position that also contains Koundé. With the current team, only Araujo, Cubarsí and Christensen would remain as the center of attention, so that he could be somewhat tight in this position with all the remaining games and the injury history of some of them. It is clear that the team has emergency solutions, but Flick would not mind the arrival of a new player to strengthen that area. Íñigo Martínez brought experience and tranquility, and now the profile of all the middle backs is younger, although they already have sufficient experience in the first team. We will have to see what the last days of the transfer window bring.
