Wayne Rooney is adamant that Manchester United should be for Gianluigi Donnarumma with the time of the goalkeeper at PSG looking for a new no. 1 that arrives in the club
Wayne Rooney insists that Manchester United would be “crazy” not to take a step for Gianluigi Donnarumma, because Ruben Amorim is encouraged to go to the transfer market for a new No. 1.
Altay Bayindir started for the Red Devils in their Premier League opener and it was his mistake that led to the winning goal for Arsenal in the first half. He resigned for regular No. 1 Andre Onana, who also did not convinced during his two years at Old Trafford.
There has been talk of United who is going after a new shot stopper this summer and Donnarumma is a man on the market after he has gotten out of favor at PSG. The Italian has just claimed the Champions League with the French side, but now wants to leave the club.
United, as well as Buren Manchester City, both want to make movements and Rooney insists that it would be a huge missed opportunity if those at Old Trafford Donnarumma would not try to land.
He said on his podcast: “Donnarumma, I think he is 26, he is one of the best keepers in the world, it would be crazy if man United did not go for him.”
Rooney also believes that the winner of the Euro 2020 would be a guarantee, even if he entails a hefty wage requirements. “I don't think he's a risk. I recently saw a stat – the mistakes that led directly to goals. He was zero,” said the ex -alternating star.
Ruben Amorim currently has Bayindir, Onana and Tom Heaton on his books. The latter is a veteran while questioning the other two. Rooney admitted that the Kameroen keeper “certainly did not fill us with confidence last season” after making countless mistakes.
However, the United Boss has rejected suggestions he must go on the market for a new keeper. Gary Neville is one of the adamant that they need a new no. 1, but Amorim believes that Sunday's collision with Arsenal proves that they can win Premier League matches with their current harvest of Shotstoppers.
He said that he was “happy with the three keepers” before he added: “I think today we prove that we can win every match in the Premier League, especially against a great team like Arsenal and we were the better team. So I am happy with the players.”
