Despite the dominance of Khamzat Chimaev on UFC 319, the new champion caused a commotion with his approach.
Chimaev finally reached the mountain top in the leading promotion of MMA, five years after he had quickly completed a number of victories in succession to announce his arrival and start a rapid climb to star.
The last victim of the undefeated Chechen turnout was Dricus du Plessis, who wanted to remain unbeaten in the Octagon itself last Saturday evening. But in the Main Event of UFC 319, Chimaev Du Plessis unilaterally defeated.
The South African was able to offer little resistance to Chimaev's smothering wrestling game. The Nu-Formeer Champion compared his opponent with a 'blanket', and it seems that such a strategy of the challenger has left many in the fan base less than satisfied.
Demetrious Johnson tells those who hate the wrestling of Khamzat Chimaev to stop watching the UFC
Fans, hunters and analysts are apparently divided after Chimaev's long predicted title tap. Although some were immediately awe for his complete dominance about a man who did not yet have to taste the UFC, others were critical about his approach.
In terms of the path of the Chechen star to victory, many predictions suggested before the fight a brutal and fast finish, such as Chimaev's entry against Robert Whittaker last year, was his bet.
With that violence in the past, many people were frustrated by the absence of the usual murderer instinct of 'Borz'. Demetrious Johnson, however, has no time for the opponents of the new champion.
While responding to UFC 319 during a live stream on his YouTube channel, the flying weight went goat those who complain about wrestling displays such as Chimaev's in Chicago to just stop looking at the UFC.
“If you don't want to look at Grappling and Wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu-Kijk not to the UFC,” said Johnson.
“You complain about something that is a very simple problem to solve. Let's say, for example, that Khamzat is about to fight again, you don't want to look at his style. The only thing you have to do is go: you can see this button here, it has been declared.
“You don't have to see Khamzat struggling,” Johnson continued. “It's a very simple problem to solve boys. You make it a larger deal than it is.”
Struggling Khamzat Chimaev broke almost an 18-year-old UFC record
The unilateral title profit from Chimaev came close to surpassing a record that many thought it would never come close to being touched.
One record fell in the Main Event of UFC 319, because Khamzat Chimaev landed the most strikes in a fight with an amazing 529, compared to only 45 of Du Plessis in the 25 -minute match.
To be able to land so many strikes, of which only a few noticeable damage to the South African have caused, Chimaev has delivered the control time of a total of 21 minutes and 40 seconds.
Chimaev has only left that figure behind Sean Sherk on the list of all time. 'The Muscle Shark' collected more than 22 minutes in his 2007 victory over Hermes Franca.
