Former MU star is in talks with a new club just after having contract TERMINATED

Former Manchester United -midfielder Nemanja Matic is reportedly in conversation with an Italian side about a possible movement.

The 37-year-old had ended his contract by Lyon on the eve of the Ligue 1 season last week only 18 months after he came to the club.

Les Gones announced the news in a statement and wrote: 'Nemanja Matic and Ol terminate their collaboration. Thank you for all the great moments, Nemanja. Good luck for the future. '

Matic is therefore available to be signed as a free agent this summer and according to Sky Sports in Italy he is in conversation with the recently promoted Sassuolo about a switch to the Serie A.

The Serbian agent is supposed to have had positive conversations with the coach Fabio Grosso of the club and CEO Guovanni Carnevali this week.

If completed, the deal would return to the Italian top flight a few years after he made a season in Roma, where he made 50 performances under Jose Mourinho.

Matic joined Lyon van Rennes in January last year and he made 55 performances for them.

No reason has been given why Lyon ended their time together.

In June, Lyon was banned to Ligue 2 because of their financial situation, after they had announced £ 422 million debts of £ 422 million in October.

Les Gones, however, appealed and won, which means that they will play a 37th consecutive season in the top layer.

That decision also led to Crystal Palace eventually lost their place in the Europa League, because the two clubs had both shared John Textor as the owner.

Matic was also in hot water last season after he had banned two games during a match for recording an LGBTQ + logo.

He covered the rainbow-colored Ligue 1-logo on his shirt against Angers on the last day of the season part of the annual anti-homophobia campaign of the competition.

Matic also made the headlines for a controversial spit with United goalkeeper Andre Onana and called him “one of the worst keepers in the Man United History” for their Europa League collision, after the keeper claimed that the Red Devils were better than “the Ligue 1-outfit.

The Serbian spent five seasons in Old Trafford and collected 189 performances, although he could not build on the two Premier League titles, FA Cup and Carabao Cup that he won with Chelsea.

Midfielder Matic was an instrumental part of the Chelsea side that won the title under Jose Mourinho in 2014-15, then again under Antonio Conte in 2016-17.
