Manchester United has been told to make signing sessions in a key position, and one of the club's long -term goals has been the subject of a transfer bod
Manchester United has received a hint that Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa could be available for a sniffing price. The Red Devils have a goalkeeper problem to tackle after Ruben Amorim Andre Onana had Altay Bayindir dropped in the opening of the team against Arsenal on Sunday.
United showed signs of improvement against the Gunners in Old Trafford, with much of the excitement of the home fans, aimed at seeing their new attacking signing sessions, made their competition debut. Amorim's side, however, came away without a part of the points after an error from Bayindir donated Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori the winning goal.
United is connected to movements for PSG's Gianluigi Donnarumma and Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez during the transfer window. Porto Shot stopper Costa, however, could be the man to solve the problem position of United after he is the subject of a surprising transfer bod.
Sky Germany reports that Galatasaray has submitted an £ 17 million offer on Costa, which is expected to be rejected by Porto. It is claimed that the Turkish side reflects the number one of Portugal as an alternative target, while they continue to follow a deal for the Star Ederson of Manchester City. The focus of the club on Costa and the first offer suggests that they think they can sign the keeper for a relatively low fee.
Costa, 25, has long been associated with a move to Old Trafford, reportedly to the options to succeed David de Gea at United before Onana came to the club in 2023. The goalkeeper would have a buy-out clause of £ 63 million in his contract, which is over for two years.
Although Galatasaray's offer will probably not be accepted, it shows that Costa could be available against a bargain – and much cheaper than what United has been quoted for him – given his pedigree. This can also be a simple solution for United, given City, reportedly competing with the Red Devils for the signature of Donnarumma.
It seems that Amorim does not have complete confidence in Onana after leaving the former Ajax and Inter Milan star from the weekend of United's Matchday at the weekend. When asked whether the omission of Onana was due to fitness problems, Amorim said: “No (he is not injured), he has recovered, but the other boys did so well during the preseason, so I have to balance that.”
Bayindir took his place in goal for United, but did little to set up his claim because he was the number one in the long term of the team. The 27-year-old has only made 12 performances for United since he arrived from Fenerbahce two years ago. His actions prior to the winning goal of Arsenal were criticized by club icon Roy Keane.
“Credit to Arsenal-Ze vary the delivery; they attack it. But if you are the goalkeeper, take control of the six-year box,” Keane said on Sky Sports. “Keepers and defenders always complain about people who get into their face.
“You get into their face. Be aggressive. I have often said it for a keeper – Come on with violence. Take control of it. Much too easy. As a schoolboy, it is united – weak and soft.”
Keane's ex-teammate, Gary Neville, repeated the thoughts of the former United Captain. The expert explained that he was in favor of United who focused on Donnarumma or Martinez because of their presence and personality, aspects that he thinks are missing in the current goalkeeper options of the club.
“The reason I think they would be good keepers for Man Utd is not necessary because they are the best keepers in Europe, but they are big personalities and characters,” he said on the Gary Neville Podcast.
“You have seen Donnarumma in a European final who save those punishments for Italy. He looked like a giant. He played for PSG in huge games under pressure. Martinez played and won for Argentina in the World Cup finale.
“They played under extreme pressure and they almost walk away with that arrogance and dominance of a keeper – Man United needs that.”
