Chelsea defender Renato Veiga remains an unsolved question mark at Stamford Bridge, where the Portuguese defender is looking for a movement this summer. He does not seem to be part of Enzo Maresca's plans, but so far no one has succeeded in getting his asking price.
At one point it seemed that Atletico Madrid Veiga could sign after they had asked him, but they still insisted on bringing David Hancko in after his move to Saudi Arabia collapsed. It left Veiga back in the dark. The 22-year-old is more recently connected to Villarreal.
According to Marca, Villarreal already has an agreement with Veiga on personal conditions, which is happy to move to Spain. The issue is the asking price of Chelsea, which is set at € 35 million, and is outside the means of the yellow submarine. Their previous record transfer was Paco Alcacer, which cost Villarreal € 25 million. They have made a formal offer for Chelsea, which has been rejected, but are still looking for a center-back to cover for the long-term injuries of Willy Kambwala and Logan Costa.
Villarreal, however, is still the feeling that there is a chance that they can sign Veiga. Their hope is that Chelsea lower their requirements as the transfer market approaches its last phases, without a clear alternative to Veiga.
Villarreal also looks at an attacker, with Major League Soccer Striker Tani Oluwaseyi from Minnesota United tipped to make the switch to Castellon. On the other hand, at the end of the window, Marcelino Garcia Toral does not want to stay empty -handed if Chelsea do not lower their requirements for Veiga. If they brought him in, it would probably be considered something like a coup with La Ceramica.
