UEFA denies Barcelona the opportunity to start the UCL away from home

Barça had made a formal request to get time and play the entire Champions League in the Camp Nou.

As explained in “Tot Costa” on Catalunya Ràdio, UEFA did not respond – neither it is expected to respond – to the request that Barça did a few weeks ago to be able to start the Champions League as a visitor, the European premiere in the house with two weeks and therefore more time wins in the Champions in the season.

An unprecedented request

A few weeks ago, in mid-July, the Blaugrana club sent a request to UEFA and, despite accepting the request, UEFA warned from the start of the Barça managers that it was not in favor of placing these conditions on the Champions League and that, historically, it had never done.

After a few weeks, Barça regards this option and will have to wait until the day of the Champions League draw, Thursday 28 August, to find out if the calendar prefers the plans of Barça and the team of Hansi Flick starts the Champions League as a visitor between Tuesday 16 and Thursday 18 September. In this case, the European debut in Camp Nou would be on Tuesday 30 September or Wednesday 1 October.
