Agreement signed: Barcelona secure Spotify Camp Nou fallback option

There are many doubts about whether Barcelona will return to the Spotify Camp Nou in September, which has been their intention in recent weeks. At this stage it is increasingly unlikely – especially since UEFA has made it clear that important developments are needed before Champions League matches can be held in the iconic stadium.

In less than a month, Barcelona hopes to combat the Spotify Camp Nou in the Spotify Camp Nou, after they have reached an agreement with La Liga for their opening of three games of the 2025-26 season to be played away from home. However, this cannot be sufficient for the club to get the necessary approval to return on the proposed date.

The intention remains that Barcelona is back in September, but because this looks increasingly unlikely, they have now protected their backup option.

According to MD, Barcelona has already signed the Convention with Barcelona de Serveis Municipals for the use of the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Company. This would enable Hansi Flick to play in Montjuic until the end of February, although the Valencia arms of next month was not included in this time frame.

Barcelona is convinced that they can play in the domestic game in the Spotify Camp Nou, but after the recent rejection of UEFA they lose hope to be able to play in their stadium during the competition phase of the Champions League. As such, this agreement would have their four home games in the Estadi Olimpic.

Nevertheless, the plan to play matches in the Estadi Olimpic, which had been the temporary house of Barcelona for the past two seasons, is still a backup. There is still hope that all matches in the Spotify Camp will be, and with the club that has submitted a request for their first competition phase to play away, they can have more time to get a return to the Champions League – as well as La Liga.
