Villarreal has received more than € 75 million from the sale this summer and they are about to invest a large part of it again with a new signing. There has been a strong wish to bring another center back because of long-term injuries that Logan Costa and Willy Kambwala have suffered, and they now have their husbands.
Earlier on Wednesday it was reported that Villarreal the Chelsea defender Renato Veiga, who had also drawn strong importance from Atletico Madrid prior to their signing by David Hancko. Club-to-club conversations are underway, and although there had been a gap in the appreciation, this is no longer the case.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Villarreal has reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Veiga. The deal will be worth € 29.5 million, with the Premier League side also retaining an important sale clause as part of the scheme.
Veiga, who will operate as a left -sided central defender in the team of Marcelino Garcia Toral, will be the record transfer of Villarreal on his arrival in La Ceramica. Arnaut Danjuma currently has that title (signed from AFC Bournemouth for € 23.5 million in 2021), but it will soon go to the Portugal International – and there will be hope that he turns out to be a much more successful signature.
Villarreal now has very strong defensive options, where Veiga adds to Juan Foyth, Rafa Marin and Santiago Mourino as centerbacks available to Marcelino. Provided that a deal is packed quickly, he could stand in line to make his debut when Girona La Ceramica visits this weekend.
Villarreal has generated more than € 200 million of sales in recent years, so they have the budget to splash Veiga. It is still to be seen whether he is a success in Vila-Real.
