Serie A 2025-26: Inter to dethrone Napoli, can Sassuolo retain their status?

Scudetto holders Napoli will be confronted with series B champions Sassuolo on the road to start the Series A season 2025-26.

The side of Antonio Conte succeeded in beating Inter for the title on the last day of the last campaign, with League MVP Scott McTominay and Romelu Lukaku Napoli getting over the line in a 2-0 win over Cagliari in the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

It was a heartbreaking end of the season for Simone Inzaghi's Inter, which were also beaten 5-0 in the Champions League final by Paris Saint-Germain and lost in the semi-final of Coppa Italia to Rivals AC Milan.

New head coach and former Inter player, Cristian Chivu, hopes to bring some silverware to the San Siro after promising signs at the Club World Cup.

Roma missed the Champions League places last season with one point, but this time hopes to go one step further under the new head coach Gian Piero Gasterini.

After they did not qualify for European football, Lazio and Milan will have familiar faces that return to their respective touchlines in Maurizio Sarri and Massimiliano Allegri.

Both coaches won the Serie A title with Juventus, while Allegri also led the Rossoneri to the trophy in 2011.

Sassuolo and Pisa received automatic promotion to the Italian flight, while Cremonese completed the Serie A setup 2025-26 after beating Spezia in the Play-Off final.

Here, with the help of the 10,000 data-conducted simulations of the OPTA Supercomputer, we assess how the Serie A season of 2025-26 will work out.

Inter Supported by Breedone Napoli

Despite the fact that he finished second last season, it is expected that their Serie A-Kroon will regain in the 2025-26 season.

Inter ended the season one point behind Napoli the previous time-out, although the Nerazzurri scored the most goals (79) and admitted the joint second (35) behind Napoli (27).

They were led in the front line by Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, where the last 14 competition goals scored and granted four assists, while the captain registered 12 goals and three assists.

Inter has a chance of 35.9% to win the title this season, but replacing Inzaghi will not be an easy job for Chivu.

Inzaghi had the highest profit percentage of each Inter Manager to take the lead over at least 40 games, with 65%.

Conte's Napoli has only had a 13.7% chance of retaining the title, despite strengthening their team.

After scoring only the sixth goals in the Serie A last season, Napoli Noa Lang, Lorenzo Lucca and veteran Kevin De Bruyne added to their ranks while they want to improve in the attacking third.

During his enchantment in Manchester City, De Bruyne offered the most assists in all matches between players in Europe's top five competitions. The Belgium International registered 170 assists at the time, with Lionel Messi in second place with 147.

Since the accession to Udinese prior to the 2023-24 campaign, Lucca has scored 20 goals in the Serie A. He is the youngest player who reaches that figure in the past two seasons, while only Duvan Zapata (10) scored more head goals than the Italian (eight) in that period.

This time Napoli will have the extra pressure in the Champions League, but Conte's Serie A -Dapperness should enable him to tackle the extra luminaires.

The Italian coach has the best point per game average of someone in the Serie A history, if all victories since 1929-30 amounted to three points, with 2.24.

Although Atalanta has endured a huge change in Gasperini's departure, they are expected to give inter and Napoli a run for their money.

Gasperini took the lead on 342 Serie A matches with Atalanta, the second most matches succeeded with a single club in the competition after Giovanni Trapattonis 402 with Juventus.

There has also been a major change in their attacking department, in which the Topscorer Mateo Retegui from last season joined the Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah.

Last season, Retegui scored 25 goals, the only player who achieved the mark of 20 goals and also registered eight assists.

There can also be a huge exit in breathola lookman, which was associated with a relocation this summer. Only Martinez (69) has been involved in more Series A goals than Lookman (57) in the past three seasons, so the future of the Nigeria attacker could prove to be crucial for the side of Ivan Juric. From August 19, however, Lookman was again in the training.

Atalanta showed signs of potential champions last season and led the competition in most roads (13).

Both Roma (9.9%) and Juventus (8.2%) have had an external chance for the title, but they are expected to be favorites for the Champions League places.

Gasperini Roma went back to the Champions League

Only seven points separated fourth place Juventus and the eighth place Milan last season, and the OPTA Supercomputer predicts a narrow race for the Champions League places.

All 20 teams that are in Serie A next season A have at least a chance of 0.3% to finish in the top four.

With Atalanta, possibly ran in a race for the top four, we could see five teams fighting for the last two places in Europe Elite Competition.

This season Roma got a chance of 45.9% to finish in the top four, led by Gaskerini.

Their opening match against Bologna will be the 600th Serie A match of Gasperini, making him only the fifth person who reaches that milestone after Carlo Mazzone (792), Nereo Rocco (747), Trapattoni (689) and Nils Liedholm (635).

Gasperini got a huge boost because Paulo Dybala has returned just in time for the new season of injury. The Argentina International has 129 goals and 67 assists in the Serie A.

Roma also borrowed in Evan Ferguson from Brighton. The striker is the youngest player in the past three seasons who scored at least 15 Premier League goals.

From their closest competitors for the Champions League places it is expected to be Juventus and Milan.

Juventus' loan addition from Randal Kolo Muani in January turned out to be vital when securing a Champions League place, where the striker scored eight goals in 16 Serie A performances.

This time Tudor Jonathan David brought in on a free transfer. Last season, the Canadian attacker had 21 targeted involvement in Ligue 1 with Lille, more than twice as much as each of his teammates, and he has reached double digits for goals in each of his last seven campaigns.

Six times Serie A winner Allegri has chosen to strengthen Milan's midfield after they finished eighth last season.

Ardon Jashari registered more recovery (169) and via Ballen (11) then Club Brugge teammates are last season, while Luka Modric joins a busy campaign with Real Madrid.

The former Ballon d'Or winner played a personal high 57 games for Los Blancos and immediately contributed to 13 goals. Only in 2021-22 did he register more target involvement (15).

Lazio (28.2%) and the Coppa Italia winners of last season Bologna (24.3%) have both external opportunities to break into the top four, but are expected to settle for potential Europa League and Conference League spots.

Sassuolo to survive through the skin of their teeth

There are no overwhelming favorites to relegate this season from the Italian top flight, but all three newly promoted parties are expected to struggle.

Pisa is back in Serie A for the first time since 1991, but is the most likely side banned by 38.2%in the coming season.

They are expected to be accompanied by Cremonese and Lecce in the lower three.

Lecce survived last season's relegation struggle on the last day after they defeated Lazio 1-0 away from home, despite playing the second half with 10 men.

Their top scorer from last season, Nikola Krstovic (11 goals, five assists), has already come from the goal this season after packing in their 2-0 win over Juve Stabia in the Coppa Italia.

Series B champions Sassuolo is expected to end up above the relegation zone next to Hellas Verona and Cagliari, which finished six and five points above the bottom three respectively last season.

Sassuolo took on 25 wins on the way to the title of the Second Division in the previous period, while he scored most goals (78), despite the recording of the fifth highest expected goals (XG) at 54.77.
