Eberechi Eze: Crystal Palace make late U-turn after agreeing Arsenal transfer

Arsenal has agreed to pay Crystal Palace £ 60 million plus another £ 7.5 million in add-ons to sign Ebereechi Eze and the South London Side, have made a decision to protect the deal

Ebereechi Eze will be denied an opportunity to say goodbye to the Crystal Palace fans in a competition after it was agreed that he would sit on their play-off of the conference.

Eze agreed on Wednesday evening of personal conditions with Arsenal after the Gunners Palace told that they would pay £ 60 million plus £ 7.5 million in add-ons for the midfielder. The 27-year-old had previously wanted to join Tottenham, but a delay in making a deal allowed Arsenal to jump after an injury to Kai Havertz.

Palace had put the brakes on a deal with Spurs because they wanted to start Eze in their match against Fredrikstad in the play-offs of the Conference League on Thursday evening. Palace organizes the Norwegian side in Selhurst Park in the first stage at 8 p.m. in what Eze's last appearance could have become for the club.

With a medical booked with Arsenal in the coming days, however, there was restraint from both sides to let him play. With so much money on the line, the decision was reportedly made to allow Eze to watch the game from the Selhurst Park stands.

Palace has agreed a club record sale and cannot risk an injury at this late stage. Arsenal has already spent more than £ 200 million to sign Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Crithian Mosquera, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga and have now understood even further.

Palace manager Oliver Glasner has consequently praised Eze and Captain Marc Guehi, who is a target for Liverpool, about the way they have led to in recent weeks. But the selection decision may have been taken out of his hands on Thursday.

Chairman Steve Parish had conversations with his Spurs-op hanger Daniel Levy before Arsenal Sporting Director Andrea Berta and vice-chairman Tim Lewis turned the tables. They quickly agreed with the conditions of the Eagles to get a deal and it is now expected to be a medical for the weekend.

Eze has made 167 performances for Palace since he came to the club from Queens Park Rangers in 2020 in a deal of £ 17 million and has a strong bond with the fans. He trained as usual on Wednesday and expected to play after starting the 0-0 draw with Chelsea on Sunday.

In his press conference before the game on Wednesday, Glasner said: “Many of you were surprised that he (Eze) and Marc against Chelsea started, it may be surprising that they will start tomorrow, but they are dedicated to the team.

“They will play a crucial part as long as they are here, they are committed to the team. If they leave, they want to leave as the boys who have given 100 percent to Crystal Palace.”
