Barcelona has confirmed that Jules Kounde has written a new contract, so that he will stay in the Spotify Camp Nou until 2030.
Kounde, who joined Barcelona at Sevilla in 2022, was in the last two years of his previous deal, and it was one of the priorities of Sporting Director Deco to bind him to a new contract. An agreement was reached earlier in the summer and the club confirmed it last week.
And on Thursday, Kounde traveled to the offices of the club to sign his new five-year contract, and did this alongside Barcelona president Joan Laporta.
After the signing, Kounde spoke with the media. According to MD, he spoke about Barcelona's objectives for the 2025-26 season.
“What I see is that people are demanding because they see that we have the quality to do it and they really love the team and their way of playing. Every time we start the season, we set goals and when you are in Barcelona, and also with the team that we have and with the season we had last year, the Champions League should not be the objective, but we are.”
Kounde was also asked about the Ballon d'Or race from 2025, which seems to be between club teammate Lamine Yamal and international colleague Ousmane Dembele.
“You have put me in trouble, but I will fail and say that (Lamine Yamal) deserves it. Yes, he deserves it. It is also true that there are other players who have had a good season.”
Kounde was in Barcelona's opening day in Mallorca in Mallorca last weekend, but he is expected to become a vital important player for head coach Hansi Flick. He was able to return to the line-up on Saturday when the Catalans were confronted with Levante on MD2.
