Liverpool will only sign ‘right player’ – Slot explains transfer stance as end of window nears

Arne Slot insists that Liverpool will only make further signing sessions in the transfer window if the player's right baliber becomes available.

The Reds have strengthened their ranks with the additions of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez.

Liverpool has also been involved in a transfersaga with Newcastle United Spits Alexander Isak, while Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is also on their radar.

With the transfer window that will be closed on 1 September, there is still time for the defensive Premier League champions to do business further.

But Boss Slot, who spoke at a press conference for Newcastle on Monday, said: “I am very, very happy with the team we have.

“Maybe two per position is ideal, but I prefer less than more because you have to disappoint so many players every time, not even in the team.

“I am really happy with the team, but there is always, when we think we can improve in a certain position and there is a player who can really improve us, then this club has always shown that they bring these players.

“But only if everything we want is: the right transfer costs, the right player, the right position. And a player who wants to come to us.”

It can be a lively atmosphere when the Reds visit St James' Park on Monday, given the noise around Isak.

Many observers have suggested that it has been a disappointing window for the Magpies, who missed various reported goals and missed with Aston Villa with Aston Villa in the absence of Isak in their Premier League opener last weekend.

Slot rejected every idea that Newcastle, however, is a club in problems.

“I don't think they are a club with problems. They had a very good start to the season against Villa, a good game for them. They could get more out of the game than one point they got,” he added.

“It is especially difficult because of the players they have there, not only because of the fans. St James' Park – last season – the atmosphere was great. The players can add to the atmosphere.”
