Tottenham Hotspur has fueled anger among the local residents after revealing plans to build a sports facility of £ 2 million in an area with 'beautiful' old forest.
The club is building a new Women's Academy, with a clubhouse and 11 throws, in Whitewebbs Park in Enfield, Noord -Londen.
Enfield Council and the Town Hall have approved the plants of Spurs, but they have attracted the anger of residents who campaign against the construction and fear that it will destroy the local area.
One campaigner, Caroline Day, accused the club of 'using the growing interest in women's football as an excuse to destroy a park'.
“In all respects they are missing compared to the other clubs,” she said Metro.
Those who claim the project against the project will be lost 16 hectares of green space, together with rare species of animals in the wild and vegetation, as a result of the plans, with traces that are aimed at developing an area that was previously used as a golf course.
They also point out how the most important training ground for the club, Hotspur Way, is close to Whitewebbs Park.
A crowdfunder with the aim of collecting £ 30,000 to combat the plans has been launched. Some of those who have been added are Spurs fans who claim that they will give up their memberships with the club, unless they perform a dramatic U-turn.
So far, a total of £ 23,000 has been generated and there are two weeks left on the crowdfunder.
The Guardian campaign group of Whitewebb has already taken Spurs to the Supreme Court after the development would not benefit the community.
“Many of our supporters are Spurs fans who feel abandoned by a club that they have put so much energy to support,” added MS Day.
In a statement reported by De Zon, Tottenham said that the project 'would improve local access to nature and habitats and offer new facilities for visitors, community groups and sports clubs'.
