Chelsea set to hold talks with Leipzig over Xavi Simons despite Spurs interest

Chelsea is expected to hold further conversations with RB Leipzig today about a deal for Xavi Simons, despite the late interest of Tottenham.

The Dutch midfielder played against Bayern Munich last night.

Although he has already strengthened his front line with the arrivals from Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens and Estevao, Enzo Maresca wants further reinforcements.

As such, the club works on closing deals for both Simons and Manchester United, Outcast Alejandro Garnacho before the summer window closes.

They are supposed to be in conversation for a few weeks with Leipzig about Simons, but an official opening offer has not been submitted.

As Daily Mail Sport reported, Leipzig holds discussions with Chelsea about Christopher Nunku and also admire Harvey Elliott as a replacement for Simons.

Simons will probably restore the blues about £ 60 million and Leipzig does not intend to let him leave unless the deal is 'economically meaningful'.

Sports director Marcel Schafer said Bild: 'We know his great ambitions to play in a top competition for a title candidate. He wants to prove himself at the highest level.

'If it is economically useful, we are open. But only then. If it is not financially for us, we look forward to a different season with this excellent player. '

However, the blues will probably have to chop players from their bloated team and have started working on that front, with a maximum of nine first teamers who run the risk of starting up.

Indeed, it is thought that the club actively tries to arrange sales or loans for NUKUNKU, Nicolas Jackson, Renato Veiga, Alex Disasi, Carney Chukwuemeka, Ben Chilwell, Tyrique George and Raheem Sterling.

In the meantime, Talisman Cole Palmer missed the 5-1 Drubbing of West Ham last night after an injury during warming in London Stadium.

“Cole was not one hundred percent in the past four or five days,” said Maresca.

“He tried in global warming, but he felt something, so we preferred not to take risks and make it worse, and we will see in the coming hours whether it is something important or not.

“It's a groin problem. It's all the [Crystal] Palace game that he was not one hundred percent for, but he tried to make a big effort for the club, for the team, for the supporters, because he is really enthusiastic about the team.

“Tonight he tried again, but it wasn't very good.”
