The pain and disappointment of Graham Potter was written all over his face after the 5-1 Premier League defeat of West Ham United by Chelsea in London Stadium.
The head coach was visibly hurt by the performance that his team set up in their first home game of the 2025/26 campaign and spoke about his frustration about seeing the hammers who allow multiple goals by not doing the base well enough for the second game.
As was the previous weekend in Sunderland, West Ham was too easily defeated by opponents who participated and just played better than the East Londers.
The result was a second humble defeat in the room of seven days and a head coach who looked deeply and works hard for solutions to give things well and to lose frowns in winning smile as quickly as possible.
Moisés Caicedo and Trevoh Chalobah made it five before the blues 55 minutes before they took their collective foot from the pedal, but by that time the damage was caused.
It is of course bitter disappointing with the results, with the way the goals. I thought they were too cheap.
I think when you do that, it gives yourself a real challenge in the Premier League, and especially when it is a team with the talent and quality that Chelsea has. It was a tough evening for us.
I think it probably set the tone, their first goal. Again, too easy, too cheap. And then we are probably great margins.
We cannot feel sorry for ourselves. We must dust ourselves. We have to go again. It's that simple.
We are out of luck not to go up 2-1. We scored a good cause, a good reaction from the players. But again, their second goal is a bad goal from our perspective.
We have to do much better than that. I think the players will be honest enough to say that. We have to do better.
And once you are behind you in the game, you are trapped between them behind them and put some pressure on, and at the same time play because of the quality they have. But I still thought we can say what we want. When you give the goals we have done, the game makes almost impossible.
It can happen in football. Of course it is possible. Goals happen and we are at a time when the week we had been a very difficult week. There is no way.
So psychologically we have some challenges. We have to work. We have a competition on Tuesday [at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup]What I think is good for us.
We have to prepare and continue there. We have to stay together. It makes no sense that I point fingers and all that stuff.
Together we were not good enough today. We have to take that responsibility together. And we have to move forward and work harder.
We must dust ourselves.
Nobody will feel sorry for us and they should not do it. We know that today was not good enough. We know today that we should do better.
And we must ensure that we are ready to play wolves. It's that simple. But no, we are of course disappointed today.
We are bitter disappointed because the fans were there. They were there with us and we have disappointed them in terms of the goals we have admitted and ultimately the result we have given.
I'm upset. This is my life. This is my career. I have a family and children. I am a normal person, just like you.
I know that the supporters are of course stripped after a game like this, but I assure you, we all feel the same. But that's sport. That is sport at the highest level.
We cannot feel sorry for ourselves. We must dust ourselves. We have to go again. It's that simple.
It is currently difficult to talk about positives. We are in pain and we are in pain because we have lost the game.
We have lost the game at home for our supporters. We lick our wounds and we try to put it all together and prepare ourselves to move forward.
It will be a few busy days.
We have to work hard and we have to do our best to improve.
We must improve the players we have and try to look for players who can also help us from outside.
