Liverpool is looking for a new striker and their leading target is Newcastle United Superstar Alexander Isak. The former real Sociedad man is just as desperate to make the switch to Anfield, but so far no deal has been agreed.
It has been reported that Newcastle wants £ 150 million to sell Isak, which has become in strike at the Premier League club. So far there has been no significant movement in the direction of that fee from Liverpool, which could lead to alternatives that are requested.
And according to Liverpool Echo's Paul Gorst (via Empire of the Kop), Liverpool should look at Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid.
“How much appetite is to test the determination of Atletico Madrid on Julian Alvarez? The Argentina International would be an ideal alternative to Isak, if there is a reserved acceptance, is the 25-year-old out of reach.
“Alvarez scored 17 goals for Los Rojiblancos in La Liga last season and offers tactical flexibility to go with his international class and willingness to work hard. There are little viability BS for the Reds, but the former Manchester City man ticks more boxes more than most.”
Alvarez had a fantastic first season in the Riyadhair Metropolitano, and he started in a similar way with a stunning free-kick goal against Espanyol last weekend. Atleti appreciate him incredibly high, and they are clear that no offers are being considered between now and the end of the summer transfer window.
And although that would be bad for Liverpool (if they were planning to make a move), it is good for Barcelona. The Catalans have identified Alvarez as their dream goal to replace Robert Lewandowski next summer, although they probably have to pay more than € 100 million to praise him from Los Colchoneros.
