A former hunter does not think that Dricus du Plessis would need an expert to repair the gaps in his game.
Du Plessis is left to analyze what went wrong after his unbeaten UFC -Run and the middleweight Reign title that emphatically ends in Chicago earlier this month.
After successful defenses against both Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland, the South African wanted to pass his highest obstacle so far in undefeated phenomenon Khamzat Chimaev. Despite his self -confidence, the champion eventually failed in that goal, with Chimaev Du Persis dominating on UFC 319.
'Still Knocks' was removed and surpassed for the most of the five -round main event, because Chimaev gave more than 21 minutes of control time to break a record that has been standing since 2007.
With that in mind it is clear what Du Plessis should improve for his return, and Chael Sonen is willing to offer some helping hands – albeit small …
Chael Sonnen says that Dricus du Plessis can learn something from his child
The lack of resistance of Du Plessis on the ground and the not returning of his feet has been widely criticized since the UFC 319 Main Event, especially after he and his team of interpreting exchanges during the Vechtweek welcomed.
Sonnen, a stroke wrestler, responded to the struggles of the South African in a video on his YouTube channel. He explained that although the technique for counteracting double legs of branchedowns and getting up the ground seems complex, the approach is actually simple.
So simple, in fact, that 'The Bad Guy' thinks his 10-year-old son could demonstrate it to the now formal middleweight champion.
“You are talking about one movement, one technique and a branchedown with double legs,” Sonen said.
“Dricus and his inability to solve the Chimaev problem is not something I have gained from trust in recent days.
“That part brings me a little concern,” Sonnen continued. “The idea to go out and work with wrestlers at a high level … It is a Takedown with double legs! It is the movement that a non-sausageler will do on his first practice day without training.
“Stop that a huge amount of work requires … (but) one of the colossal waste that I have ever experienced is a wrestling practice. They are two hours and you would be astonished how little struggling they do.
“A double leg stump, again, from a technical point of view, is very easy to do,” Sonen added before he breaks down the exact technique. “It will require the most effort and energy (in MMA), but the technology is simple.
“You don't need a world or Olympic champion to learn those positions. My son is 10, he can do them both. I will make him available if you think it will help.”
Another UFC legend has told Drus Du Plessis to change divisions
While Sonnen Wrest improvements of Du Plessis wants to see, one of the former UFC hunters of the American legend has suggested a more drastic way of acting.
During an episode of his Jaxxon -Podcast, Quinton Jackson Du Plessis advised to leave middleweight. But while the South African has plagued a future light heavyweight company, 'Rampage' has a different division in mind.
“He has just been destroyed. DDP should not even say the word 're' or 'match' in the same F – sense of an interview, with all due respect,” Jackson said.
“DDP probably has to go to another weight class. He probably has to fall into weight, he is stuck,” he added.
