The attempts of Manchester United to bring in a new keeper can encourage Andre Onana to find a route from Old Trafford, which is also mentioned as a replacement against Fulham
Gary Neville has questioned the goalkeeper situation of Manchester United, which suggests that the trust of Andre Onana can be shaken to the extent that he could ask to be sold before next week's transfer deadline.
United Chiefs are close to completing a £ 17 million step for Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp, with Onana another replacement for Sunday's game against Fulham, since Altay Bayindir remains between the posts despite a non -convincing display in the defeat of the opening week against Arsenal.
Earlier in the window, the Old Trafford Club was connected to Emi Martinez from Aston Villa and PSG's Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is now looking for Manchester City – but neither was much more than speculation.
Neville responded with the Cottagers before the collision of United and revealed that he had spoken with people in the club who admitted that a new keeper remains a priority and now wonders whether Onana might explore a move.
“I asked for that this morning and spoke with a few people at United,” said Neville. “The feeling is that the new boy who comes in would probably be a NO2 that would start on the couch, but they definitely need a NO1.
“The most important priority for United is still goals and we think (Matheus) Cunha, (Bryan) Mbeumo and (Benjamin) Sesko are going to do that. We think Onana will start today, but that situation is not good.
“Bayindir came in last week, but he makes a lot of mistakes. Now that Onana knows that United has been scouted by Europe for a new keeper and replacement for him, his confidence must be shot and he must think he wants to get out.”
The former United Full Back also warned that the club should act quickly before the Deadline transfer on 1 September.
“They have to do with that. That and the central midfielder lock next to Bruno [Fernandes] Are the two things they need to be sorted this week. “
Despite his worries, Neville still believes that Onana is now the best option available for Ruben Amorim.
Asked who he would choose Fulham before it was confirmed that Bayindir would remain, Neville said: “I would go with Onana, he is the most reliable from the unreliable keepers they have.
“I think Bayindir is young, Onana is the better keeper for me, although he also makes mistakes and he is not ideal. But I think he has a greater personality and character than Bayindir and he has that experience, so I think Onana should start.”
