The performance of Manchester United in their 1-1 draw with Fulham filled in optimism around the side and underlined the need for reinforcements of midfield, according to Gary Neville.
The equalizer of Emile Smith Rowe in a dramatic match in Craven Cottage has canceled a controversial goal by Rodrigo Muniz, while Manchester United's waiting for a first Premier League victory of the season continued after the 1-0 loss of last weekend against Arsenal.
The opening weekend performance at Old Trafford offered encouragement as a new signing sessions Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, but Sky Sports Pundit Neville felt that the game of Sunday emphasized well -known problems – especially in midfield.
Ruben Amorim continued to exist with Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes as his central couples, with the latter missing a fine of the first half when Kobbie Mainoo remained an unused replacement.
“[My optimism] Has been somewhat controlled because it felt like there were a few old scars that appeared and opened again, “said Neville on the Gary Neville Podcast.
“I think the keeper still looks very weaving on those crosses of the corners, who cannot continue because that fear builds, and then in the center of midfield I think United should now do a piece of company.
“I thought Mainoo could get up and that person could be, but it is quite clear that Ruben Amorim is not currently in him.
“He starts with Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes, he then puts Mason Mount in there and then he brings [Manuel] Ugarte for him, what you tell that he is really fourth choice.
“That means they have to sort something because it becomes a problem.
“The two in it are exposed when those front three are only a little higher and that back five are pushed back a little.
“Those gaps, those hectares seem to open, and I thought United was cut a few times in the second half.
“I think Bruno Fernandes is part of that and he [Amorim] Will have to solve it. “
'Sesko nowhere close by in terms of fitness'
For the second week in a row, Neville felt that the performance of Manchester United deteriorated with the replacements of Amorim, one of which saw Benjamin Sesko thrown early in the second half.
The Slovenia International, a signing of £ 73.7 million from RB Leipzig that also appeared from the bank against Arsenal, could not have an impact because Manchester United was struggling to find attacking momentum.
“I said this last week and it is a bit disturbing: Fulham became a lot stronger when they made their replacements, I actually thought United got worse when they made them,” said Neville.
“Sesko, at the moment, let's just say it, he is not nearly close to fitness or just gets up to speed.”
Neville believes that the striker should get more minutes to build his fitness, starting in Wednesday's Carabao Cup second round Tie to Grimbsy Town.
“Ruben Amorim said before the game that there is a call to play him,” said Neville. “Last week I said:” Look, let's just get him straight in it. “
“He will have to get him against Grimsby and give him 90 minutes.
“He will probably have to play him against Burnley next Saturday, just to get him going, because you can see that he needs football.
“What you can't do is just stay on the couch.
'The problem he will have is that he wants to stay [building] The team, but I think what you saw when they brought Sesko, put Mount in midfield and took Casemiro from names, they were opened and it seemed that Fulham could score. “
'Bruno let the penalty abstain him'
Neville felt that Fernandes allowed his penalty to distract him during the game.
The skipper shot his efforts over the bar after referee Chris Kavanagh encountered him when he prepared to take it, where Fernandes later told Sky Sports that he was “upset” not to receive an apology from the civil servant.
“I think he had it influenced him,” said Neville. “I thought he let him come. When he came out for the second half, he still spoke with the referee.
“I know that can happen, but I think you can sometimes see with Bruno in his face that he is wearing his heart on his sleeve and it was quite clear that he is clearly disappointed about missing the penalty in the way he did that.
“Sometimes, if a keeper makes it, you might think,” Ok, that happened, “but he hit the bar, and then there was this idea that the referee disturbed his rhythm.
“It was a complete accident. Of course, the referee tried to return to the players who came in.
“He just seemed to have it influenced in the game and I think that's just something that shouldn't have happened, but that wasn't the biggest problem for United today.”
