Aljamain Sterling vs. Brian Ortega result
Sterling looked smooth during the first round. The 135 pounds Great scored an early knock -down when he threw his opponent away with a low leg kick.
Both hunters fought as if they were very aware that they might have to go the distance of 25 minutes, but it was clear that 'the funk master' did enough to win the first frame.
The big flash point of round two came after Sterling had landed a huge shot on Ortega's eye.
Ortega stopped fighting and indicated to the referee that he had suffered an illegal eye Por.
Herb Dean insisted that the shot was legal and slow-motion repetitions supported his phone call. Nevertheless, the experienced civil servant bizarre called a time-out, giving Ortega time to recover from a potentially fighting blow.
Sterling really felt in the third frame. The 36-year-old landed his shot as desired, scored a low kick knockdown and ended with a rotating elbow such as that Lerone Murphy Ko'd Aaron Pico with on UFC 319 last weekend.
Round four saw the grab specialists finally put their fight on the ground. Sterling used a body lock to bundle his opponent, but nothing really happened as soon as the UFC Shanghai Co-Headliner hit the canvas.
After lost each round, Ortega's corner told him that he needed a finish in the last frame. The double 145 pound Title Challenger gave it good, but he ended the fight on his back, as if he could be stopped by Sterling.
Brian Ortega's weight problem
The Co-Main event of UFC Shanghai was almost canceled due to a scary weight problem.
Sterling vs. Ortega was moved to lightweight at the very last moment from featherweight.
Both men were weighed, but fans claimed that Ortega “looked dead” when he got on the scale.
Ortega thanked fans for their concern and support in a social media statement with three words.
“Love you,” he wrote on Instagram prior to his first fight since he was postponed by Diego Lopes in September 2024.
Ortega's matte display against Sterling will probably come out of what happened 24 hours before their fight.
