Club statement:
FC Midtjylland has secured Philip Billing on a five-year contract until the summer of 2030. The 29-year-old midfielder moves to the club after a Stint in the Premier League and a championship in Serie A with Napoli.
After more than ten years, Philip Billing returns to Denmark in English football. With more than 150 Premier League matches to his name, he brings a considerable international experience with FC Midtjylland.
A profile that cancel the everyday
Sports director Kristian Bach Bak is satisfied with the approach of the Danish midfielder:
– When a player with experience from the Premier League and Serie A FC chooses Midtjylland, this confirms the direction in which we are taking. Philip is in his excellent football time and exactly matches the way we want to play – and the culture we are on.
– He brings a higher level, a new intensity in our training environment and will be a catalyst for the players who have to take the next step. We can use his international experience to further develop ourselves and to reach even more – in Denmark and in Europe.
– The approach of Philip is a clear expression of our ambitions. We want to go further, we want to challenge ourselves and we want to pursue new results. That is why we invest in quality and culture, which can elevate both the team and the club.
If someone dives into the field, the sports director says:
– Philip is a versatile midfielder who has both the current force to cover box to box and the technique to set the game. He can play all central roles – both 6, 8 and 10, and we are convinced that he will have a big impact, he says.
The perfect moment
The 29-year-old invoicing has roots in the West Jutland football environment from his childhood with Jerne IF and Esbjerg FB and has left its mark in English football over the past decade. He scored against Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United in the Premier League and contributed with a goal in a crucial top match for Napoli on his way to winning the Serie A title in the spring.
Now he looks forward to representing FC Midtjylland:
– It is fantastic to finally have it in place – expected for a long time. I am proud to be able to call myself an FC Midtjylland player, and I am happy that I am back in Denmark.
– Midtjylland has shown a consistent interest in me in recent years and I feel that this is the right time now. I always thought that if I went to the Superliga one day, I would have to have for many years at the highest level in me. This is the perfect time.
– This club is just logical. The dedication and interest they have shown in me – in combination with the community, the family feeling and the way in which people are in the club.
– It will always feel strange to go home abroad after 13 years – but there is a time and the right time is now. The years have passed quickly, with many experiences and friendships en route, but now a new exciting chapter is starting.
Looks forward to the responsibility
The new midfielder comes to the club with the ambition to be able to manage:
– I come to a young, fantastic team that has a lot for it. I look forward to the responsibility that awaits me – and I believe we can achieve great things. That's why I'm here.
– I come up with a wealth of experience – and I need it now. There are a number of real talented players here, and I will try to help them as much as possible, both on and outside the field. As a young player I had teammates who meant a lot to me – including Jonas Lössl – who helped me a lot with his experience, says Philip Billing.
Save Drømme
Philip Billing and FC Midtjylland share the big dreams:
– This club dreams great, and one has to do this, because otherwise they don't achieve anything – and that is also the reason I have come here.
– Now I have to find my place in the team and work hard, so I make the team. But we have to set big goals this season. We want to win the gold, hopefully the cup, and go for it in Europe.
– You have seen teams that you did not believe could go really far – and maybe even win a European tournament. I can't see why FC Midtjylland should not be able to do the same one day, says Philip Billing.
Billing won Serie A in 2025 with Napoli. He played 152 games in the Premier League for Huddersfield Town and Bournemouth and was an important player in the penultimate promotion in 2021/22. For Denmark he has five senior international games and 12 U21 international games.
