Kobbie Mainoo has difficulty replicating his impact and form of the last two seasons, and Captain Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United once predicted that the young star could eventually struggle
The Captain Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United once predicted that Kobbie Mainoo would have trouble maintaining his strong shape at the club, while sad images of the young midfielder who looked depressed appears. Mainoo, 20, was seen as the future of the Red Devils because of its versions in the past two seasons.
Mainoo achieved an impressive collection of miracles and earned his English debut just over a year ago. He also claimed the man of the competition performance in the last victory of United's FA Cup on Manchester City in 2024 after the winner is scored.
Yet he left from having the world at his feet to now to experience real uncertainty around his united future. Under Ruben Amorim, Mainoo has only started 15 of the 44 games and this season he stayed on the bench for the second consecutive game as United with Fulham on Sunday with Fulham.
A video on social media from Mainoo on the full -time whistle has become viral, because it saw the younger desperate desperate, with rumors about his potential departure that continues to grow for Monday's deadline.
In April 2024, United skipper Fernandes spoke the foresight to see that Mainoo would not always have it in his own way, because opponents started to find out his game after his amazing breakthrough campaign.
“It may not come this season, but it may come next season that it will be a bit harder for Kobbie because people know your game,” Fernandes said. “They know how to stop you and they have different plans for you and ultimately different ways to destroy your effect on the game.”
About the impact that Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have spoken – which are on their way to United with a switch to Chelsea that was still on the maps – had made on arrival in the first team, but Fernandes was expanded in his praise.
“They played the most and they did well,” said Fernandes. “They have done great things. I think they have been really good; they have improved themselves. They are just the first steps. They have to continue.”
Yet the disturbing prophecy of the midfielder seems to have come in an unfortunate reality for Mainoo.
Amorim opted for a midfield pairs of Casemiro and Fernandes to start the match against Fulham, with Mason Mount declining when the first was picked up for forward Benjamin Sesko. Manuel Ugarte was later set up for Mount.
Images after the game showed Mainoo aimlessly around and squatted down before they briefly applaud the traveling fans. Eventually he cuts a figure of a player who seems to be destined to lie elsewhere.
Reports state that Mainoo would consider leaving United in the last week of the summer transfer window if a suitable offer was submitted. Chelsea is reportedly also interested in the young star in January.
Discussions about a new contract are also an impasse, in which Amorim claimed that there had been “no news” about a new deal for Mainoo prior to the Fulham game.
In a turn of fate, Amorim revealed after the competition that the 20-year-old was actually in competition with the man who had sounded the warning for a place in the starting line-up.
“Mainoo is fighting for his position at Bruno,” said Amorim. “I changed two midfielders. I left Mason Mount there because we wanted to score a goal and when I changed, I felt that the team needed a midfielder.
“So he has to fight for his position at Bruno. At the moment he is fighting Bruno for the position.”
